Does it make sense for a product that's meant to protect your skin to contain chemicals that can damage it? We don't think so either. As the warming weather calls for more and more time outside, we've recruited one of our favorite clean beauty bloggers - Annie Atkinson of She's in The Glow - to point us in the direction of some safe and effective SPF.
From a five ingredient compact stick for on-the-go protection to one that doubles as a makeup base, and another that's just for your lips, here are seven non-toxic sunblock options, perfect for whatever sunscursions your summer brings on...
Summer and sunscreen go hand and hand, so stocking up on the right SPF is essential. As a general rule of thumb, you should stick to physical block, like zinc or titanium dioxide. Physical SPFs are like wearing a protective layer of clothing that you can simply take off at the end of the day, leaving no room for bad skin reactions. Chemical blocks, on the other hand, react with your skin’s chemistry to block UV rays. Oxybenzone, a common ingredient in physical sunscreens, can even trigger allergic skin reactions and may be hormone disruptors. #yikes
Even popular high-end beauty brands formulate their sunscreen with oxybenzone, so it’s best to always keep a lookout when shopping for the right SPF.
Fortunately, there are some super chic green brands out there that have created safe, non-toxic and chemical-free sunscreens that actually perform. Here are my favorites.
