A First Look Inside ROW DTLA, LA’s Best New Hang Out

Downtown LA is a mystery for most. While there are definitely some major culinary bright spots, in general, navigating DTLA's one-way streets and big city feel is a challenge for many Venice, Weho and Echo Park denizens. There just isn't a designated spot to spend an afternoon shopping, sipping and hanging out with friends (or even exploring by yourself) -- until now. ROW DTLA is a new retail and restaurant concept from the same people behind Platform LA in Culver City (get our Culver guide!). The new hub is home to fifty independent boutiques and fifteen amazing restaurants, and host to cool lifestyle activations like rotating art galleries, exclusive brand pop-ups, rooftop yoga and the infamous Smorgasburg.

Everything at ROW DTLA is designed with intention -- including the space itself, which features plenty of planty beauty, places to chill, and a massive 10-story parking structure we're trying not to freak out about (easy parking in LA?! We didn't even know this was a possibility). Natural and locally produced goods can be found throughout the ROW's shops, many of which are women-owned.

The incredible curation on Market Row -- a private street in the complex populated by the coolest stores you'll ever find in one place -- gives power to small business owners and local entrepreneurs who are pushing LA's culture towards something more conscious on all levels. The chic collection of shops and restaurants will continue to take shape over the next few months, but there's no reason not to stop by now. In fact, here are a handful of excuses to jet down to an amazing and wonderful parking structure ROW DTLA this weekend...

row dtla hawkings new york

Hawkins New York | This home design store is the kind of place you want to land in after a day of shopping. Sit down and just live there forever. Modern, stylish and surprisingly accessible, this store aims to "not only enhance the physical environments in which our customers live and work but create a greater understanding and appreciation for responsible, aesthetically minded design."

Tartine Manufactory | The first LA offshoot of this iconic San Fransisco bakery won't be open until next spring... but it's coming! The highly anticipated bakery-cafe has only been available in SF until now. Insider sources tell us that it will be a 3-story market concept like Eatay.

Smorgasburg | Smorgasburg is a Sunday local 'food flea market,' and is what put ROW DTLA on the map. The weekly market concept began in Brooklyn and we've been obsessed since they expanded to LA. What was once just a few small vendors and the promise of a pretty Instagram photo has blown-up and become a major highlight of our weekends. Head to ROW on any given Sunday, stroll around the food vendors' tents, have a few snacks then trickle into the shopping area for a cool-down. row dtla hayato japanese bento box

Hayato | Hayato is a traditional Japanese restaurant that serves wild seafood without the frills. The dining space can only seat a handful of people, which makes the experience that much more amazing, but you can also order a bento box to-go if there's no room for you at the chefs' counter.

Auragami | Get your aura photographed at Auragami. The studio specializes in it, using electromagnetic energy to translate your energy into a personal portrait patterned with beautiful (and telling) colors. They also offer moon ceremony workshops and self-love workshops.

row dtla erica tanov store

Erica Tanov | Everything Erica makes is inspired by nature; subtle, soft and thoughtfully undone. Her store is filled with beautiful objects from relaxed clothing made from natural materials to sculptural candle holders and the brass spoons of your dreams. We also love her book, which of course you can grab at the store -- check out our feature on it here.

Hightide | Need a pack of pretty pens and a chic new notebook? Or perhaps a giant binder? Or maybe an hourglass to time your face mask? Hightide is a brand of stationary founded in Fukuoka, Japan in the 90s. Their namesake storefront offers their brand plus many more modern Japanese and American office goods. It's a pleasure just to wander around, but we'd be surprised if you can't resist buying a thing or two.

Bender | Bender is all about rooftop yoga. The studio blends wellness with music, art and culture for rooftop yoga classes like no other. row dtla myrtle store

Myrtle | This independent boutique has a little bit of everything. Focusing on women's apparel by independent female designers, Myrtle is made for the creative spirit.

Poketo | This lifestyle brand is all about infusing your everyday life with art and design. They have an amazing curation of design-conscious goods. Their new flagship is a beautiful and open concept store made for pop-ups by different artists, designers and creative makers.

Rappahannock Oyster Bar | This cute restaurant places a heavy emphasis on sustainability, local sourcing, ethical practices and responsible ingredients. Happy hour is from 4- 6pm every day -- stop by after an afternoon of shopping for a few shooters and an ice cold glass of local rose. row dtla home decor

A + R | This beautiful store showcases contemporary furniture, lighting, housewares and decor from Scandinavia to Japan and many places between.

Charlotte Stone | Shoe designer Charlotte Stone grew up in a family of artists and graphic designers and her gorgeous handmade shoes reflect the influence of her upbringing.

Still Life Ceramics | Just when you thought ROW DTLA was all about retail, there's this cute activity opportunity. Still Life Ceramics is both a studio and a shop that focuses on functional art by local artists. We definitely recommend taking a pottery class. It's fun and weirdly super cathartic. row dtla lcd store interior

LCD | This beautiful multi-brand boutique was styled by one of the founder's fashion designer friends. The store's collection of clothes and accessories is highly edited and absolutely gorgeous, including rare local and international brands.

Flask & Field | This modern wine shop is more of a lifestyle experience than a liquor store. Stop by to browse around their pretty bespoke homegoods and take home a bottle of incredible and often obscure natural wine.

Bodega | This Boston brand is all about hiding in plain sight. Their store at ROW DTLA is hidden in what looks like a warehouse space for produce. Slide behind the plastic blinds at the end of Market Row and you'll find an expansive boutique specializing in rare streetwear brands and other cool urban accessories. If you know, you know. If you don't know, we're not sure how you were ever going to find it.

Getaway Goals: A Sustainable Glamping Adventure With Peru EcoCamp

Travel is a core part of wellness for us. Often that includes long naps in crisp sheets and room service breakfast in bed, but sometimes it means getting steeped in a full-on wilderness experience. Lately, we've eyeing these incredible eco-camps in Peru.

ecocamp peru domes

Peru Ecocamp offers the first private sustainable luxury glamping experience in Peru. The luxury trekking slash glamping experience is the ultimate blend of remote adventuring and comfortable, conscious travel. Treks include the hike to Machu Picchu over the course of several days, staying in five ultra-sustainable eco-camps with tent pods along the way.

ecocamp peru mountain trek

The Journey | The Peru EcoCamp Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is a professionally-guided glamping excursion that spans from the Mollepata valley to the ancient and sacred city of Machu Picchu. The celebrated Salkantay Trek was selected by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine as one of the world’s 25 best hikes. According to the EcoCamp site, the trek allows visitors to "experience the rich geography of this part of the Peruvian Andes as you hike remote and ancient trails where enormous snowcapped mountains give way to lavish forests of tropical fruits and unique orchids as well as visiting a traditional Peruvian coffee plantation". Check out the complete itinerary here.

The Accommodations | Peru EcoCamps offers an opportunity to explore the wild Andes with the added comfort of any high-end hotel. The geodesic domes are a comfortable place to stay, and the gourmet meals they offer daily are made with vegetables grown right around the corner. The traditional Peruvian dishes offered on the trek "showcase the fresh, natural ingredients and varied flavors of world-renowned Peruvian cuisine".

ecocamp peru campsite

The Camps | There are five Ecocamps on the route to Machu Picchu -- all of which are built with sustainability and comfort in mind. Every Ecocamp has eight 300 square-foot dome tents and are equipped with community spaces such as the "Dining Dome" and a "Lobby Bar Dome". Below are each of the five camps and their unique features, as described by EcoCamp:

Pincopata EcoCamp. The first EcoCamp on the trek is located ten minutes away from the quiet town of Mollepata in the province of Limatambo. Using green technology, it offers the area’s first 100% sustainable camping experience. The camp boasts beautiful green lawns and plenty of local flowers planted across the whole area. The large fire pit in a quiet corner of the camp allows for the perfect place for stargazing.

Soray EcoCamp. The second Ecocamp and a 45-minute drive or day trekking from Pincopata. Soraypampa is the beautiful and peaceful area that is only home to a few campsites and our Ecocamp, overlooked by both the Sacred Humantay and Salkantay mountains. Due to the altitude and the cooler temperatures, the environment in Soray Ecocamp is very different to Pincopata, and gives the opportunity to experience a different ecosystem. It offers wonderful views to the snow-capped mountains.

Humantay EcoCamp. Humantay is the highest of all the Ecocamps sitting at 3,900 m / 12,792 ft. It is also the coldest camp due to the altitude. It is located on a flat expanse of pampa watched over by Mount Humantay.

Milpo EcoCamp. The beautiful Ecocamp is the only accommodation offered in the area. The exclusive route between Huayra and Milpo means that you will not meet any other travelers along the way. The camp is located in the cloud forest region, offering the chance to spot endemic orchid species right amongst the domes. The domes all face the valley across the river, a very peaceful and tranquil area, where the only sound comes from the river in the basin below.

Cafe EcoCamp. The final Ecocamp is located in the small town of Lucamabamba, in the Santa Teresa Valley. It is surrounded by local farms producing a variety of produce from coffee to exotic tropical fruits and honey.

ecocamp peru domes and horses

Susntanability Efforts | Every EcoCamp site is powered by solar energy and water turbine systems. The water is filtered and treated with UV light, so it is safe to drink the tap water -- which helps reduces the possibility of waste generated by plastic bottles. To grow their vegetables, every camp uses organic fertilizers and compost produced by the waste of fruits and vegetables from their kitchen. Every campsite contains all the facilities needed for a journey like this one to reduce the wear and tear on the route.

ecocamp peru mountain lake

Remote Magic | It pays to go off the beaten path, but in style. According to the site, "limited accessibility is a benefit for those wanting to experience nature in a more intimate and untouched setting. You can travel by boat and hike through jungles to see monkeys, a plethora of birds, and if you’re lucky, the last of the wild jaguars. Then unwind with a pisco sour and get lost in Peru."

Nature Therapy | It's proven that spending time in nature is good for your health. This beautiful, adventurous and just the right amount of spoiled trip is an opportunity to connect with nature in a unique way. Disconnect and get off the grid. Tune into your surroundings. Between pristine lakes and clean mountain air, this epic journey is sure to reset any rocky state of mind.

So You Want to Go Vegan: What You Should Know Before You Make The Leap

There are endless perks to a plant-based diet. A plant-based vegan diet might seem restrictive at first, but it may be worth it for the glow, the flat belly and the feeling of being well and balanced.

If you want to be vegan, or at least give it a go, there are a few things to consider before making the shift. If you're not sure where to start or the best way to ease into the lifestyle, these great tips from ethical vegan and author of Vegan Reset, Kim-Julie Hansen will help you start the journey right...

Seven years ago, I found out about factory farming and as a consequence, became an ethical vegan overnight. Even though I was initially motivated by the ethical component, I soon discovered the many benefits of a plant-based diet and as skeptical as I was at first (I truly believed that I would never be able to enjoy food ever again, that’s how used to eating animal products and processed foods I was), it remains the best decision I’ve ever made.

Today, I share my passion for this lifestyle online on my blog, as well as my recipe share platform, Best of Vegan, which now reaches over 1.5 million people on Instagram alone. I love nothing more than teaching people who are new to veganism everything I didn’t know at first, which is why I wrote my first book called Vegan Reset: The 28-Day Plan to Kickstart Your Healthy Lifestyle. It includes all the tools, tips and tricks you’ll need, including a 28-day meal plan and plenty of additional recipes, from smoothies to breakfast ideas to savory lunch and dinner dishes and luscious desserts. The book follows a holistic approach to leading a healthy, vegan lifestyle, guiding you step by step.

Here are five things you should know before embarking on this journey. I certainly wish I had known them before going vegan myself!

You Can Vegan-ize Practically Anything

The very first thing I always tell people is that veganizing their favorite non-vegan dishes will make the transition a lot easier and even fun. It is normal to assume that going vegan means having to restrict yourself and not being able to enjoy your favorite dishes anymore, which, for many, can be linked to a lot of emotions and memories. The good news is, as the vegan movement grows, plant-based alternatives are becoming more and more accessible. The two things I was most worried about when I went vegan were my beloved lattes and sushi. Now I enjoy my lattes with oat milk, cashew milk, soy milk, almond milk or any of the dozens of options that are available. It might take a couple of attempts to get used to it or you may very well love it from the first try. Either way, know that there are so many options that taste great and you absolutely won’t have to restrict yourself. Sushi can easily be made without fish by simply replacing it with veggies, tofu or anything your heart desires.

Veganism is a Lifestyle, Not A Diet

There’s so much more that goes into being vegan than just the food we eat. Since veganism seeks to reduce and eliminate animal suffering as much as possible, this also applies to other areas in our lives, including the clothes we wear, the cosmetics and cleaning products we use or even how we entertain ourselves (vegans avoid zoos and circuses for that reason). As overwhelming as that may sound, you actually get used to it surprisingly quickly. People who adopt a vegan diet only (for health reasons, for instance) are therefore referred to as plant-based, not vegan. Eating a plant-based diet can be a wonderful first step towards veganism, so if that’s all you feel comfortable with for now, just go at your own pace.

Abundance Over Restriction

As mentioned before, you can find vegan versions of practically anything. There is vegan cheese, vegan ice cream and even vegan bacon. Since these products make going vegan so much more accessible, I fully support them, but you do not need them, which is important to know for anyone who lives in a remote area and doesn’t have access to these products or anyone who may not want to eat them. You can create amazing dishes using just plants and you might be surprised at just how creative you can get with them. None of the recipes in my book resort to any meat or cheese alternatives simply to show what is possible without them. There is truly an abundance of food available when you go vegan and I’ve never been more excited about trying new recipes than I am now.

You Can Be Vegan on a Budget

There is a wide-spread stereotype, according to which veganism is only accessible to wealthy communities. As long as food deserts and social inequalities exist, there is definitely some truth to that, and it’s a topic that definitely needs to be addressed. That being said, with some practice, tips and tricks, it is very possible to succeed on a vegan lifestyle even if you’re on a budget. Buying in bulk and focusing on non-processed foods like legumes and grains, as well as buying seasonal produce and looking for wholesale markets are just some ideas that make veganism more affordable.

There Might Be Physical Changes

It’s important to know that you may experience some physical changes. What is commonly referred to as “detox” or detoxification, is basically just your body cleansing itself. It does that all the time, regardless of what you feed it. That being said, the foods you eat can make it more or less difficult for your body to detoxify itself. Since plants, unlike animal products, are very high in water content and fiber, you may experience some symptoms like temporary fatigue or headaches that are common whenever you change your eating habits, especially if you were used to eating highly processed foods before. These symptoms can vary from person to person or may not even occur at all. If they do, however, it will likely only be for a couple of days. Make sure you drink plenty of water and get lots of rest.

I often get asked whether going vegan will make you lose weight and there is no simple answer to this. Veganism is not a diet, which means that you can be vegan and eat veggies all day, just like you can be vegan and eat cookies all day. It is not a guarantee for weight loss or gain, but you can definitely achieve either depending on your goals (although I will say that focusing on feeling good over losing weight should always be encouraged!). If you’re looking to gain weight and build muscle, you can simply increase your portion sizes and load up on healthy plant-based protein. There are so many vegan athletes, including bodybuilders proving that you do not need to worry about a lack of protein or not being able to get stronger on a vegan diet.

How To Talk About Veganism
Lastly, the social implications are probably the most unexpected side-effect of going vegan. You might encounter unexpected reactions and criticism from friends and family. Meat, especially when spoken about in relation to ethics, is a very sensitive topic. Just beware that if you tell people things like “I’m vegan now because I care about animals”, they’ll be likely to interpret it as you saying “You’re not vegan so you don’t care about animals” and might become defensive. The best way to go about it is to lead by example and to remind people that you, too, were not vegan at some point. Saying something like “I went vegan after finding out information I had no idea about and I actually feel amazing now” will sound less threatening, but will still plant seeds and spark their curiosity.

It’s A WorkParty: Jaclyn Johnson of Create & Cultivate Answers Your Top Career Questions

Things don't always turn out as we plan. Sometimes, against the odds, they actually turn out better. No one knows this better than Jaclyn Johnson, founder of online platform and IRL conference series, Create & Cultivate, and author of the brand new career book, WorkParty.

These days Jaclyn is on her A-game game, but it was a long climb to the top.

In her 20s, Jaclyn was on a fast track for corporate career success, but, after being fired from a new role, she had to regroup -- in a new city with no support, no less. While some of us might have crumbled under the pressure and disappointment of 'failure', Jaclyn rose to the occasion, launched her own company and landed on Forbes' 30 Under 30. Casual.

Jaclyn's passion project turned multi-milllion dollar brand, Create & Cultivate, has become a cultural phenomenon in the creative community, helping to carve out a space for modern women in the working world to talk to each other and support one another in their journey up the ladder. Everyone from Chrissy Teigen to Lauren Conrad to our own Editor-In-Chief have moderated C&C panels.

Jaclyn's debut bookWorkParty, is a fitting follow-up. Part memoir and part-career guidance manual, this brilliant book is mandatory reading for anyone trying to make a name for themselves and their work in these crazy times. Keep an eye out for the WorkParty Podcast coming out this fall!

We had Jaclyn take over our Instagram for the book launch and answer your questions about career, confidence and creativity! Check out her answers and bits of wisdom below...

Q: What is the biggest mistake new entrepreneurs make?
A:
The biggest mistake new entrepreneurs make is not getting it in writing! Be sure to have your contracts in place. Make sure everything is signed off.

Q: Would you recommend starting a business with family or friends?
A:
I think a lot of people start businesses with people they care about, are passionate about, or have like-minded interests. The reality is you have to set expectations out from the begining. Even if you're sisters or brothers or whatever, you have to be able to but in a contract exactly what you want to know.

Q: What has been your greatest fear?
A:
My biggest fear has always been failure. Obviously, you can't expect to do everything perfectly. You have to embrace your fear and move on.

Q: What's the best way to deal with creative burnout?
A:
It happens, it totally happens. I think you just have to get offline for a little bit. Go on a hike, go on a walk, whatever it is that you need -- and then you can get back to being on Pinterest.

5 Reasons We’re 100% Obsessed With LA’s New Skincare Studio Heyday

NYC's fave skincare studio, Heyday is basically the Dry Bar of facials. They just opened their first spot on the Left Coast right here in West Hollywood -- and we predict that everyone from your low-maintenance boyfriend to your most most high-maintenance friend will be sneaking in for regular facials.

Heyday facial studio los angeles interior

Heyday allows you to pop in for a luxury facial experience minus the traditional stuffy spa setting. Their curation of non-toxic skincare products is a major perk, but the concept is obsession-worthy on its own. Drop in for a 30-minute mini-facial between errands or a 75-minute skincare extravaganza -- either way, you're guaranteed a thoughtfully customized treatment and cant-stop-staring results.

Our NYC friends have been raving about this habit-forming studio for years.. Unsurprisingly, our first visit to Heyday was practically perfect. Here are the top five reasons why we can’t get enough…

Heyday facial studio los angeles natural products

Customized Facials | Does it ever get better than this? The goal of any facial is to leave with good skin and that's practically a guarantee at Heyday. We don't need to worry about defining our dream complexion for our facialist, they take a look and then get to work on the balancing act for your specific skin situation. They ask about your current products and routine, then they get to work helping you to balance it out. You can book an appointment for 30 minutes, 50 minutes or 75 minutes. Each treatment includes a deep cleanse, exfoliation, mask, hydration, and SPF protection. The longer facials include extractions. Decide what your skin needs and get it delivered on a silver platter.

Natural Products | Everything used at Heyday is clean, natural and/or non-toxic. We absolutely love their lineup. Everything is beautiful, but more importantly, everything is powerful and effective. The facialists know everything there is to know about the ingredients including how they interact with each other, with your skin and with the products you normally use. You can peruse in store or buy online.

Heyday facial studio los angeles expert esthetician

Expert Estheticians | You don't have to spend all day in a spa or shell out crazy amounts of money to get face time with a top skin pro. Everyone at Heyday is well-trained and deeply knowledgeable. They aren't about pushing products because their pay doesn't depend on commission as so many spas and facial places do. Heyday's blog reflects the thinking of the whole organization; they're concerned with the science of skincare and are looking to provide comprehensive education for just about every skin type.

flash facials | Heyday locations are designed for ease of access. Case in point, West Hollywood has it's own parking lot - LA gold! Think of this spot as the alternative for those who'd never step foot - or make time - for a full spa day.

Heyday facial studio los angeles decor

a Great Vibe | The place is designed to be an anti-spa paradise -- modern, warm and un-intimidating. We love Heyday's style, and the music isn't sleepy spa music - it's chill and fun. You don't feel like you have to whisper, but you still won't feel disturbed by anyone else during your treatment.

Heyday is redefining the facial experience. It's the perfect spa to build into your monthly routine for quick facials that won't break the bank, but still get you glowing.

Collagen, Rice + Whey: Your Ultimate Guide To Protein Powder

Protein powder has become a modern pantry staple in almost every wellness-oriented diet. Since so many of us use it daily, its key to use a powder that's clean and tailored for our body type. This comprehensive guide by registered dietician, Rachel Link from Dr. Axe will help you understand the difference between each of the protein sources and which one is right for you.

Although once considered a supplement solely for bodybuilders and professional athletes, protein powder has gained widespread popularity among those looking to gain muscle mass and increase protein intake while also improving their health. In fact, the potential benefits of protein powder extend way beyond the gym; research shows that this superstar supplement may help with everything from improving skin health to enhancing immunity and more.

Produced from both plant-based and animal sources, there are many types of protein powders available to tailor to any diet plan, taste palate or personal preference. So what are the best protein powders and how can they impact your health? Let’s take a look.

What Is Protein Powder?

Protein powder is a common supplement that provides a concentrated amount of dietary protein from both plant and animal sources. Some popular examples include whey, casein, hemp and bone broth protein powder.

Most people take protein powder looking to build muscle mass and maximize fat burning, but protein powders can also be a useful way to increase protein intake for those who may have difficulty meeting their needs, such as vegans, vegetarians or older adults. You can also use protein powder to increase your caloric intake if you’re wanting to gain weight in a healthy way by using it to supplement your meals and snacks.

And in addition to supplying an extra bit of protein to your daily diet, protein powder benefits many other aspects of health as well. In fact, several types are high in fiber, vitamins and minerals and have been linked to a wide range of health benefits such as lower cholesterol levels, better blood sugar control and improved skin health.

Plus, protein powder is available in a wide array of different flavors and can be incredibly versatile. Although most commonly mixed with milk or water, it can also be incorporated into recipes like breakfasts and baked goods to add a punch of protein to your favorite foods.

Common Forms of Protein Powder

Protein powders can be derived from many different plant-based and animal sources. Some of the most common types cropping up on the market today include: Whey, casein, soy, bone broth, rice, pea, collagen, egg, hemp, mixed plant protein. There are also several different forms of protein powder, each of which vary based on their nutrient profile and the way that they are processed. The three most common types include:

Protein concentrates: This type of protein powder is made by extracting protein from whole food sources, resulting in a final product that contains 60–80 percent of calories from protein with the remaining calories from fat and carbohydrates.

Protein isolates: Protein isolates are further filtered to remove much of the fat and carbohydrates, resulting in a more highly concentrated form of protein powder. In general, protein isolates typically contain between 90–95 percent protein.

Protein hydrolysates: This form of protein powder undergoes a process that breaks the bond between amino acids, creating a type of protein that is more easily absorbable by your body.

Quality Protein Powder vs. Protein Powder with Fillers

Not all protein powders are created equally. And not only are many pumped full of fillers and added ingredients, but they often contain misleading labels, making it impossible to tell what you’re really getting in each serving. In fact, a slew of recent lawsuits have found that many popular brands of protein powders actually contain less than half of the amount of protein listed on the label.

These lawsuits allege that many companies use a practice called “amino spiking,” meaning that they use cheap filler amino acids like glycine, leucine and taurine and then count these amino acids towards the total protein content on the label. The problem is that these amino acids are incomplete proteins and don’t contain the same health benefits as the complete proteins found in organic protein powder. Lab results even showed that MusclePharm’s “Arnold Scharzenegger Series Iron Mass,” one of the most popular brands of protein powder, delivered just 19 grams, which equates to less than 48 percent of the amount listed on the label.

So how can you skip the scams and make sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck? Take a closer look at the ingredients label and skip the supplements that add extra amino acids or fillers like maltodextrin or artificial sweeteners. Instead, opt for organic, naturally sweetened protein powders with minimal ingredients and be sure to always purchase from reputable retailers.

7 Best Protein Powders

Bone Broth Protein Powder | Bone broth is made by simmering different parts of animals, including bones and connective tissues, into a nutrient-rich broth, which can then be dehydrated and concentrated into a protein powder. Not only is bone broth protein powder highly nutritious, but it’s also available in an assortment of flavors, which is why it’s often dubbed the best tasting protein powder for baked goods and recipes. Bone broth protein powder is ideal for those looking to improve their health, optimize immunity and combat the signs of aging while also increasing their daily protein intake.

Rich in Collagen. As the most abundant protein in your body, collagen plays a central role in the health of your hair, skin, joints and nails. Getting enough of this protein is key to many aspects of health, especially as you start getting older.

Promotes Skin Health. Collagen levels drop as you age, resulting in symptoms like saggy skin and wrinkles. Studies show that supplementing with a collagen-containing supplement like bone broth protein powder could improve skin elasticity and skin moisture in older adults.

Enhanced Immune Function. Some research suggests that protein powder made from bone broth can reduce inflammation to give your immune system a hearty boost and reduce the risk of conditions like leaky gut syndrome.

Relieves Joint Pain. Supplementing with collagen, one of the primary ingredients found in bone broth protein powder, has been shown to reduce activity-related joint pain in athletes.

Collagen Protein Powder |
As the most abundant form of protein in the body, collagen is found in the muscles, skin, bones and blood vessels. However, collagen levels begin to slowly decline as you get older, resulting in symptoms like joint pain, wrinkles and hair loss. Taking a collagen supplement is an effective way to boost collagen levels and reverse the symptoms of aging to improve health and quality of life. The best form of a collagen protein includes several types, including from chicken collagen, bovine collagen, fish collagen and egg shell collagen. Collagen is a good option to help combat signs of aging and enhance overall health. It can be especially beneficial for those with autoimmune disorders or conditions like arthritis, leaky gut syndrome or liver problems.

Decreases Joint Pain. Collagen can help increase the synthesis of cells in the extracellular matrix to reduce joint pain and improve symptoms of arthritis.

Prevents Leaky Gut. Leaky gut syndrome is a condition caused by increased intestinal permeability resulting in symptoms like inflammation, decreased immunity and nutritional deficiencies. One study in Food & Function found that collagen can improve intestinal barrier function and protect against leaky gut syndrome.

Promotes Hair and Skin Health: As the building block of the hair, skin and nails, some studies show that collagen supplementation could be therapeutic against hair loss and skin-related conditions.

Improves Liver Function: Collagen is rich in a type of amino acid called glycine, which has been shown to preserve liver function and protect against liver injury in some animal studies.

Whey Protein Powder |
Whey is a type of protein found in milk. More specifically, it is the liquid that separates from the curds during the cheese-making process, resulting in a final product that is high in protein. However, it may also contain lactose, a type of sugar found in milk that can be difficult for certain people to digest. Whey protein isolate is the best whey protein option if you have lactose intolerance, as the lactose content is significantly decreased during processing. Whey protein may be the right choice for you if you’re looking to increase muscle mass and improve muscle recovery after an intense workout. Whey protein is also sometimes considered the top protein powder for weight loss because it can help curb cravings and improve body composition.

Supports Muscle Growth. Whey protein is quickly digested, making it an ideal choice for a post-workout smoothie to gain muscle mass fast. In fact, multiple studies show that whey protein can help speed up muscle recovery and enhance muscle growth.

High in BCAA. Whey protein is rich in branched-chain amino acids (BCAA), which help promote muscle recovery and support muscle synthesis after exercise.

Controls Appetite. Some research also shows that whey protein could decrease appetite and may help reduce levels of certain hunger hormones to a greater extent than other protein powders, including casein or soy.

Improves Body Composition. For those looking to lose weight and kick up fat burning, whey protein may be the way to go. Studies show that supplementing with whey could help decrease fat mass and waist circumference — overall belly fat — in people who are overweight or obese.

Hemp Protein Powder |
Hemp is a variety of Cannabis sativa, a type of flowering plant indigenous to Asia. Although most well-known for its association with marijuana, hemp actually contains little to no tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is the cannaboid responsible for the psychoactive properties of marijuana. Instead, hemp is actually jam-packed with protein, and hemp protein used to make one of the most popular plant-based protein powder options on the market today. Hemp protein powder is perfect for those looking to boost protein intake to gain muscle mass and strength while also reaping the nutritional benefits of the hemp seed, including its high fiber and omega-3 fatty acid content.

Easily Digestible. Hemp protein powder is an easily digestible form of protein, meaning your body is able to metabolize and utilize more protein to get you closer to your goals.

Contains Heart-Healthy Fats. Unlike other protein powders, hemp protein powder stands out because it contains a hearty dose of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of heart-healthy fat that’s been linked to decreased inflammation, improved heart health and better brain function.

Plant-Based. Hemp protein powder is often considered one of the best vegan protein powder options because it’s totally plant-based and can be enjoyed on nearly any diet.

Rich in Fiber. Hemp seeds are loaded with beneficial fiber and each serving of hemp protein powder packs in a good chunk of fiber as well. Besides supporting regularity, fiber can also lower cholesterol levels, stabilize blood sugar and even enhance weight loss.

Pea Protein Powder |
Tiny but packed with protein, pea protein is a relatively new form of protein powder that’s been gaining popularity fast. Derived from the yellow split pea, pea protein powder contains a good amount of nearly all of the essential amino acids and has been associated with a number of health benefits thanks to its stellar nutrient profile. Pea protein works well for those looking to increase muscle growth while also curbing cravings and decreasing appetite, making it a contender for the best protein powder for weight loss. When paired with a healthy, well-rounded diet, it may also benefit other aspects of health, such as heart health.

Boosts Muscle Growth. One study in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition found that pea protein was equally effective as whey protein at increasing muscle thickness when combined with resistance training.

Reduces Hunger. Some research shows that pea protein can help increase the levels of specific satiety hormones to keep you feeling full and decrease hunger.

Lowers Blood Pressure. In addition to kicking up your protein intake, pea protein may also help keep your heart in tip-top shape by keeping blood pressure in check. A 2011 study showed that supplementation with pea protein was able to significantly lower systolic blood pressure levels after just three weeks.

Casein Protein Powder |
Casein is a type of protein found in milk. Unlike whey protein, however, it’s digested much more slowly within the body, helping to decrease muscle breakdown. Because it’s derived from milk, casein protein is also rich in several essential nutrients, including calcium. Casein can help increase fat loss and build muscle for those looking to tone up. It can also increase metabolism, allowing you burn more calories throughout the day to help the weight slide right off.

Slows Muscle Breakdown. Casein has anti-catabolic properties, meaning that it slows the breakdown of muscle tissues during resistance training and supplies the muscles with a steady stream of amino acids to promote muscle growth.

Enhances Strength. Some research indicates that casein protein may be even more effective than other types of protein like whey at stimulating muscle growth and increasing strength.

Improves Body Composition. One study comparing the effects of whey protein and casein found that supplementing with casein doubled the amount of fat loss, lean body mass gains and chest strength compared to whey protein.

Boosts Metabolism. Casein tops the charts as potentially the best protein powder for women looking to lose weight because it’s been shown to ramp up energy expenditure and keep your metabolismrunning.

Brown Rice Protein Powder |
As its name implies, brown rice protein powder is made from brown rice and contains all of the essential amino acids that your body needs. It’s plant-based, high in fiber and contains additional micronutrients like iron, calcium and vitamin C, all of which provide it with an added boost of health benefits. If you’re looking to lose weight and improve your body composition, brown rice protein powder is a good plant-based alternative to whey protein. It also comes with several added health benefits for those who may want to simultaneously improve heart health and lower blood sugar as well.

Aids in Weight Loss. Adding a scoop of brown rice protein powder into your smoothie can do double duty by increasing your protein intake and kickstarting weight loss as well. According to an animal model out of China, brown rice protein includes specific peptides that were shown to reduce weight gain in hamsters.

Promotes Muscle Building. One study in the Nutrition Journal showed that brown rice protein powder was as effective as whey protein powder at improving body composition and exercise performance.

Regulates Blood Sugar. Thanks to the high fiber content of brown rice nutrition, brown rice protein powder has been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels in some animal models.

Lowers Cholesterol. High levels of cholesterol can build up in the bloodstream, causing arteries to narrow and thicken, plus upping the risk of heart disease. Some animal studies have found that brown rice protein could cut cholesterol levels to reduce your risk of heart disease.

How to Use Protein Powder

The possibilities of protein powder extend way beyond sticking a scoop in your morning smoothie or shake. In fact, you can easily add protein powder to everything from baked goods to oatmeal dishes to smoothie bowls and more. Stick to a single serving right after working out to maximize muscle gain, or enjoy it throughout the day in your favorite snacks if you’re looking to increase your caloric intake and use protein powder for weight gain.

Protein Powder Side Effects + Precautions to Take

Adding protein powder into your routine can enhance your results at the gym and make it easier to meet your protein needs throughout the day. Certain protein powder supplements may also come with other benefits, such as better heart health, improved immunity and a decreased appetite.

Protein powder should not be used as a replacement for protein from whole food sources, however. Protein foods like meat, fish, eggs and legumes not only supply a good amount of protein in each serving, but they also pack in tons of other important vitamins and minerals that your body needs to thrive.

Additionally, it’s important to keep in mind that more is not always better when it comes to protein powder. Overdoing it can lead to protein powder side effects like weight gain, bone loss, kidney damage and liver problems.

Finally, remember to always buy from a reputable retailer and look for organic products with minimal ingredients and fillers to make sure you’re getting the best protein powders possible. Coupled with a healthy diet and lifestyle protein powder, using a few of these best protein powders help you reach your fitness goals, increase your protein intake, manage your weight and enhance your overall health.

Here’s What To Do To Take Your Skin to the Next Level

It seems to happen at the change of seasons -- we're zooming along with our regular skincare routine when slowly we begin to realize our skin is at a plateau and has stopped giving us that glow.

When this happens, don't panic - and don't heed the temptation to do something extreme.  It may be time to swap in new products to your routine or simple adjust your routine. It may be as simple as doubling down on hydration for a few days or making a splurge on a knowledgable pro.

Here's what to do to take our skincare routine to the next level...

Stop Everything.  From brow conditioner to lip scrub, there is a wider variety of products these days than ever before. If you have a tendency to do the most with your skincare routine, it may simply be that your skin is ready for a break. Just like a good detox or a fitness rest day, if you feel you've plateaued, taking a few days to rest your system can be the best choice. Skin can become reactive or overworked by too many products.

Try washing your face with water only for a few days and follow up with a good fact mist afterward and throughout the day. Learn about the benefits of washing with water alone here.

see a pro. Sometimes you just need a professional's perspective to get a stagnant skincare routine moving and shaking again. It's amazing what a couple of expert treatments, spa-grade machines and a well-trained eye can do for your glow. Medical microcurrent is one of our favorite treatments for a quick lift and complexion boost. This reiki facial is another kind of secret sauce. Check out a few more of our most-loved natural facials in LA here.

adjust to Skin changes. Our skin can change over time and even with the seasons. Take stock of your go-to products and re-evaluate from time to time: do you need a richer moisturizer than you once did? Do you need less exfoliation than you did last season? Listen to your skin. What worked a few years ago or even last spring might not be what you skin needs now. Take stock of your skincare habits: are you committed to a product or protocol because it gave you a glow once upon a time? How long has it been since you put the routine in place? Evaluate any changes in your skin or your environment and consider a change.

focus on Hydration.Commit to being super hydrated just for one week and see how it affects your skin. At the core of so many skin issues is often plain old dehydration. Our bodies are mostly made up of water and our skin is our largest organ -- you do the math. When we're dehydrated, our skin can tell us so, often through dullness, redness, lack of tone, increase in oil production and sometimes breakouts. Focus on drinking plenty of water for a week and tamping down on dehydrating foods and beverages - see if you notice any difference.

Mask It Up.  Skin feeling dull? Dry? Congested? Oily? There's a mask for that. Don't be afraid to use a variety of masks throughout the week. We often get a series of mask treatments at one time during a spa facial and have learned to model that behavior at home too. For example, try rotating between a firming, drawing clay mask and a deeply hydrating mask during the course of a week. Depending on your skin's needs, rotate through these special treatments and get a variety of benefits. Just be sure not to try more than one new mask at a time.

ice your skin. Skin inflammation can cause a slew of issues. While the best way to address it is from the inside out, we've got a quick homemade hack to reduce redness, puffiness and dullness: freeze green tea or beauty tea into ice cubes and roll those suckers all over your face. Learn more about the process and benefits of skin icing here.

Relax, But Really. Stress shows up on your skin, so remember to relax. Not only does stress aggravate most health and skin conditions, but remember that skin woes for a couple of weeks aren't the end of the world. If skin is acting up, pay attention to what else is going on in life. Be gentle with yourself and focus on providing yourself with nourishing rest. This too shall pass. Discover a few amazing ways to reduce stress daily here.

try herbal infusions. Nourishing herbs for skin and hair can have a potent effect. Steep herbs of your choice in water and keep a bottle tucked in the fridge so you can sip on herbal infusions all day long. Herbal infusions are like gentle, hydrating supplements. Discover an amazing beauty infusion recipe to start with here.

What do you do when you're in a skincare crisis or need skin to look it's very best?

Meet The Dream Team Behind Jennifer Garner’s Best Body Ever

When actress Jennifer Garner stepped onto the Oscar's red carpet last spring, everyone was buzzing -- not about who was on her arm -- but about her arms. Having just completed three months of intensive fitness training for her new role as a vigilante mom in the action-thriller Peppermint, the attention was well deserved. To prep for the film, which releases in September, Jennifer partnered with A-list fitness guru Simone De La Rue.

The real-life mama of three trained with Simone six days a week and worked with celeb nutritionist Kelly LeVeque to create a 360-degree program for her best body ever. We're dishing with Simone below about Jen's entire - impressive - process. You want fitspo? Get it all below.

If you're looking for your best body ever, we swear by Simone and Kelly's Body By Simone app. The ladies' work with Jennifer Garner proves just how effective their combo of fitness and nutrition can be.

Q: What was the training program like to get Jenifer Garner ready for this role?

A: It was a really intense 3-month period that Jennifer really upped her game for. Basically, we worked out six days a week. She worked with me for one hour every morning, then she did some stunt training for an hour after that.

We wanted to create a strong and powerful physique, especially upper body, so we had to lift large weights and really build up her shoulders and her biceps and triceps and her upper body strength. At most, she was lifting 15 pound weights but we were doing high-repetition sets to fatigue the muscles and then supersetting that with her own body weight.
We were using resistance bands too.

We also combined in the cardio -- she loves to dance and she’s a great dancer. Some days we just danced for an hour or used the mini rebounder which she also did cardio on. She is honestly the strongest, most dedicated and driven client that I have. At 46, with three kids it’s just incredible seeing the shape she got into. I was impressed myself.

Q: When and where did you start to see the transformation?

A: The real moment was when I saw her on the red carpet for the Oscars and she had that royal blue dress on. She was photographed and the next day everyone was like “OMG, look at Jen’s arms!” or “Look at Jen’s body!” For me, that was a really proud moment. I felt like a proud mother. It was also like a coming out for her to show the Hollywood community how hard she had been working since the divorce. I think she just looked so toned and so ripped -- she looked incredible and she earned it!

Q: What are some routines you used to get Jen in such great shape?

She was actually doing sort of a push-up challenge. She was doing up to 100 push-ups in a day just on her own in different segments, like ten at a time throughout the day. We did a lot of supersetting and bodywork. For example, she would do basic push-ups but then we would add weight onto her back while she was doing the push-ups. We mainly used free-weights, but I still really incorporated the dance element for the stability and balance aspects of my Body By Simone training method.

Q: How did you two start working together?

A: I’ve been working with Jen for four or five years and we have a wonderful relationship. When this opportunity came up, the director called me and said 'This is the physique I want her to have.' and he was insinuating that there’s specific training that she needs to have. I said 'Look, you need to trust me on this, we will get there in our own way.' -- and we did! It was quite satisfying with the whole Time’s Up and female empowerment era that we can really just show the men that we can do it ourselves and do it well.

Q: What was the most challenging part of this whole process?

A: The time restraint and long hours that we had to work around were very challenging. We were still training while she was filming. Some mornings I was at her house at like 5am and we would train and then she would go and be on set and film all day and then be absolutely exhausted and not get a lot of sleep and we’d have to go again in the morning. There are not many people that would get me out of bed at 4:30am for a 5am training - she’s probably only one of a handful. Her commitment alone to that was inspiring -- being a mom and filming 12 hours a day and still making time for her workout. The hard work paid off for her because she is essentially a walking billboard for the work that we did.

Q: What was the most rewarding part of this process?

The thing that I loved was that, originally, the producers and the studio and everyone were saying that she needed to have a male trainer and it has to be in a traditional gym and this is what she has to be doing. She was like, I don’t want to do that, I won’t be happy doing that. I’m so glad that we proved to everyone that a female can train a female and use 15 - 20-pound weights and use your own body weight to really create that physique. And as Kelly would attest to, you don’t have to just be eating chicken breast and broccoli. Check out Jennifer's Instagram for an inside peek.

Q: Do you have any motivation tips for hitting a challenging training goal?

A: Find whatever you can to get through it. I loved working with Kelly LeVeque because I love everything she is and does and you have to fuel your workout as well. You can’t just starve yourself completely or limit your food. You need those proteins to really build and repair the muscle, so diet plays a huge part in it -- and when I say diet I mean 'eating plan' because she was burning so many calories and building so much muscle that she had to make sure she was keeping up her nutrient intake and protein intake.

I think for getting motivated, you just have to have a goal. You have to set it and just work towards that goal. As humans, many of us are all or nothing, so if you have something to aspire to we work a little more consistently. Set a goal, keep yourself accountable and just try and stay focused. I always wondered why people have trainers and there’s a reason -- because there is someone there saying to you 'Come on you’ve got to go!', even when you don’t want to. They’re pushing you when you’re too tired.

Q: Did you give her any fitness homework to do outside of your sessions to continue building towards the end goal?

A: We mixed up a lot of the recovery -- she was going to the Stretch Lab where they’re working with people and really stretching them out. She was constantly getting massages. She was doing cryotherapy which is basically an ice bath, to try to repair the muscles. She did a lot of stretching and a bit of yoga. On set, when she had to look winded for a scene, she’d have a jump rope with her on set so she would do a speed jump rope to really make herself look fatigued. She was honestly just beyond motivated, driven, just the perfect client to have. A lot of the work outside of what we were doing was muscle repair and self-love.

She also used our app, Body By Simone that Kelly is part of as well. When she was on set, or there were a couple of times she had to go do press so she wasn’t with us, she did the workout from the app. She said it was like having the two of us in her pocket.

Q: Can you speak more to the importance of rest days and recovery efforts when training intensely?

A: It’s so important to have at least one rest day. Your body, your mind, your soul -- everything needs time to rest and recover. You can’t work the same muscle group day after day. You really need to pick one muscle group on a Monday, and do an opposing muscle group on the next day because otherwise you can over-train and over-strain. Some days we would just do cardio-focused exercises, other days would be strength training-focused.

I think sometimes we get caught up in the idea of 'I’ve gotta just do something and I’ll do a lot of things and I’ll do it all at once', but you really want to focus on a specific muscle group and work it until fatigue and then allow it to rest and recover. Especially as women, we give so much of ourselves -- physically, emotionally, spiritually -- that you also need that self-love, you need that time.

I’m also a big believer in sleep - sleep, sleep, sleep. Whenever you can get your sleep, get your sleep. If you limit your sleep, that’s really challenging for weight loss. It’s really taking care of yourself with little things, like making sure you’re hydrated, making sure you sleep, adding in some meditation and some yoga or whatever that self-love is for you, but your body does need time to relax and heal and repair. It’s crucial.

In terms of hydration, you should have 6-8 glasses of water a day, but when you’re working this hard and sweating, I say add another 4 glasses to that. When you’re dehydrated your body often tricks you and thinks that it’s hungry. I always say to clients if you’re feeling hungry but you realize you only ate a short while ago, have one or two glasses of water and usually that hunger subsides. One of my big messages is just to listen to your body. We are, as humans, very in tune to our bodies if we chose to listen to them.

The Detox Blackberry Charcoal Mocktail To Sip Between Drinks

We like our drinks functional -- whether cocktail, mocktail, latte or smoothie. So when we stumbled upon this genius mocktail idea, we were thrilled.

We've whipped up a couple of clean cocktail recipes made with sparkling versions of Hint Water flavors we love -- and created this blackberry charcoal mocktail while shaking everything up. After unpacking a case of the flavored fizz water (blackberry fizz is hand's down the team favorite!), we decided to throw a shot of charcoal straight into the (non-GMO, sugar-free, preservative-free) sparkling blackberry water and -- bingo, an ideal post-cocktail mocktail was born.

Flavored sparkling water is the quickest way to create good cocktail recipes at home without a million ingredients and without the added sugar that simple syrup or concentrated juices can add. If your friends are a healthy bunch, keep a case stocked at all times for quick and easy drinks.

Charcoal is the perfect ingredient for that glass of water between cocktails - and our version will help you linger longer between drinks. Scared of activated charcoal? Don't be. As long as charcoal is mixed with plenty of liquid and taken in moderation, the benefits are safe and high-impact, especially while drinking.

Keep these four simple ingredients hanging around on your next party's mini-bar or stir up a pitcher and keep it on hand for guests who want to hydrate and stay healthy after a couple of cocktails! [olists num=1]

Regular quinoa is just as good – but it needs 2 minutes less cooking time – or you could use red quinoa instead and cook for the same length of time as the black quinoa. The combination of spiced salty-sweet fried halloumi and chickpeas is unbeatable – you’ll be wanting to use this pairing with everything. This makes a bit extra and any leftovers make a great packed lunch. [olists num=1]

Fizzy Hint Water Cocktails with Probiotics, Berries + Green Tea

When we're mixing drinks at home, we're looking for something that's easy, elegant and without fake ingredients. While that should be easy to achieve, we often just end up popping open a bottle of rosé instead. Been there?

Last week, our team received three giant cases of Hint Water's sparkling flavors to the office. The afternoon picnic that followed was one for the books. Thanks to the two flavors we're obsessed with - cherry fizz and blackberry fizz - our healthy home bar issues are totally solved. We're sharing the recipes - a probiotic blackberry twist and a cherry and green tea fizz - and restyling them here for killer photos like you knew we would.

hint water healthy cocktail recipe

We were familiar with Hint Water's still water, but the fizzy stuff was a revelation. Everything from Hint Water is non-GMO, preservative-free and doesn't contain any sugar. We made our two low-maintenance, but totally sexy cocktails with the sparkling versions and think they could hold their own against any of our favorite L.A. libations! The key, of course, is that these recipes are healthier (hello, probiotics!), easier to make, and far more affordable than two cocktails out on the town.

For an effortless party bar that still feels special, stock up on cases of sparkling Hint Water (get our exclusive offer) and display the produce we've included - mint, blackberries, citrus fruit - in excess around the bar. Any good bottle of vodka works here. Let us know what you think! And try our genius mocktail recipe here too.

A note on cocktail benefits + ice: We like our cocktails without ice whenever possible. Why? Both ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine advise that women take it easy with icy drinks. Extremely cold foods can negatively effect hormones, mood and digestion. If you really love icy drinks, go with your gut and do what you think is best. For us, keeping the Hint Water and the vodka both chilled before serving is a good balance!

+ Blackberries are loaded with vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants.
+ Probiotics can support skin and gut health.
+ Green tea can support blood sugar balance, weight management and brain health.
+ Mint is soothing for digestion.
+ Citrus is mineralizing and alkalizing for the blood.

Summer in a Jar: How to Make Sun Tea (Before Fall Happens)

Tea. Water. Pitcher. Sun. That's all you need to make sun tea -- summer's liquid soulmate.

Learning how to make sun tea is a sweet way to spend a lazy afternoon outdoors with friends. Minimal effort is required, but the thrill we get from making the stuff comes in just beneath the childhood magic of mud pies and flower crowns.

Make a few jars of sun tea before yoga and lunch or before brunch and the beach. Then spend a little time connecting with a friend and hydrating with naturally nourishing ingredients right from the sun-warmed jars. Summer's most low-tech beverage is also the perfect way to avoid a hot kitchen - set things up outdoors and avoid more time over a steaming teapot or stove.

How To Make Sun Tea

Choose your tea: To make classic sun tea, gather a few bags of your favorite black or green tea -- you'll need one per every cup of water used. For extra nutrients and flavor, try adding a handful of fresh mint, slices of lemon, thinly sliced ginger, or dried flowers like chamomile, jasmine and rose. To make a caffeine-free, functionality-focused version, try using an herbal infusion instead of tea bags. We use loose herbs for this and strain them out. Learn which herbal infusion is right for you and more about why we love them here.

Fill 'er up: You'll need a glass container with a lid that holds at least one gallon of water. Make sure to clean it thoroughly with hot water before you begin! Once washed, add 8 tea bags to the container (or more if you like your tea strong). Fill the container with eight cups of water (about halfway) and secure the lid tightly.

Get outdoors: Place your sun tea jar where the sunlight can strike the container for about 3 to 5 hours. Direct sunlight is ideal for making sun tea. Move the container around if necessary to keep it in the sun.

Taste + Adjust: When your sun tea starts taking on a nice, rich color after a few hours, taste and decide if you want to steep your tea for longer or if it's ready to drink. If it's too strong, you can add more water or balance out the intensity with a few drops of liquid stevia, a bit of honey or another natural sweetener. When you're done sunning, transfer your sun tea to the fridge (you might want to pour it into a smaller vessel first). Serve over ice and enjoy!

Can't wait to share your sun tea?  Serve it up in one of these chic pitchers or carafes.
