Pot De Creme: A Healthy Avocado Chocolate Mousse Recipe To Die For

healthy chocolate-avocado mousse recipe

Which ingredients are on your wellness pantry short list? If you include avocados and cacao powder, then this ridiculously delicious recipe is for you. A healthy avocado chocolate mousse recipe like this one has become something of a modern girl's kitchen classic -- easy, gorgeous, fun and full of healthy fats and minerals.chocolate-avocado mousse coconut cream

Whip up this simple pot de creme from Claire Thomas of Sweet Laurel Bakery for a dessert, snack -- or breakfast! -- that's completely vegan and packed with nutrition....

How To Make Healthy Avocado Chocolate Mousse

INGREDIENTS:

For the mousse:
1 large ripe avocado
1/4 cup unsweetened cacao powder
1/4 cup almond coconut milk
2.5 Tbsp maple syrup
1 Tbsp natural vanilla extract
1 Tbsp coconut oil, melted
2 Tbsp finely chopped bittersweet chocolate

For coconut whipped cream (makes 2 cups):
1 15-ounce can full-fat coconut milk
1 Tbsp agave nectar
1 tsp vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

For the mousse:
In a food processor, purée the avocado until smooth. Mix together the cocoa powder and milk until combined and add to the avocado, along with the remaining ingredients, except for the chopped chocolate. Mix until well combined. Transfer the mousse to individual bowls and store in the fridge until ready to eat. Top with chopped bittersweet chocolate and coconut whipped cream.

For coconut whipped cream:
Set the can in the fridge overnight so that the coconut fat solids separate from the coconut water.  Open the can and carefully pour out the thick coconut cream. With an electric whisk, beat the cream, agave, and vanilla extract on very stiff until peaks form, about 5 to 7 minutes. You need it very stiff so it can support the pudding.

Milks, Essences + Serums: How To Layer Your Skincare Through Winter

layering skin care products

Winter can be drying, and sometimes one moisturizing product isn't enough. We don't need to tell you that. We're the generation that has to keep our tween siblings and daughters away from the skincare aisles at Sephora.

Most of us have been inundated with enough skincare marketing at this point to understand the basics of a good skincare routine, but -- thanks in some part to the dominance of Korean beauty over the past few years -- there are a few tricky skincare products like essences and milks that take a bit of getting used to. In these dry winter months, that can confuse or dehydrate skin, it can be nice to stack in a few more layers to help skin stay its most supple and comfortable self! Here are our absolute faves...

ILIA Beauty The Base Face Milk | Clean makeup darling ILIA now makes a few makeup-friendly skincare products and they're all fantastic. The Base Face Milk is brand new and perfect for the season. A lightweight, hyaluronic-based "milk", this stuff is just what layered skincare is about. Shake the bottle, tap a few drops into your palms and press into the skin for a light quench your skin will drink in and then apply your cream or oil over the top. When summer comes the milk could be enough on it's own!

BIOEFFECT EGF Hydrating Essence | No, it's not a toner and it's not a serum either. Essences may seem completely superfluous to your routine -- until you try one. A few watery drops of Bioeffect's Essence pressed into the skin gives the skin a dose of the brand's Barley EGF – a moisture-binding and skin-rejuvenating "signaling protein" that has us hooked on this full line of products. The Essence has been a winter MVP, adding a layer of softness, moisture and calm without any heaviness. Layer under moisturizer and serums (and under the milk if you're layering up or down).

Glow Recipe Watermelon Toner | Speaking of Korean beauty, Glow Recipe is one of our favorite brands in the genre. There are so many stars in the brand's line up, but none more culty than their Watermelon products. If the ideas o all these moisturizing layers already have your oily or combination skin in a panic, consider this gentle toner that'll gently support regular exfoliation to help with skin cell turnover and clear pores. Non-stripping with a gentle dose of skin-loving hyaluronic acid.

Osea Hyaluronic Sea Serum | A moisturizing serum is probably the most familiar of skincare layers. Used just under your regular oil or moisturizer, a hyaluronic acid has become the modern girl's non-negotiable. The light, gel-like Sea Serum is best in it's category and utterly addictive. A few glassy drops underneath your cream will change the way your skin feels big time -- especially if your skin just never feels supple and moisturuzed.

Tower 28 Beauty SOS Daily Rescue Spray | If you get too involved with all these moisturizing layers, Tower 28 can help set your skin back in balance. This soothing and calming spritz goes on just after cleansing. It's made with one superstar ingredient: Hypochlorous Acid. Hypochlorous acid is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial substance that fights redness and irritation and helps defend our skin from bacteria. On days that your skin is feeling irritated or break out-prone, try layering this spritz in before you apply your products.

Our Valentine’s Day Gift Guide: Plush Robes, Ethical Diamonds + A Brazilian Body Mist

wellness valentine's day gifts 2024

around this time of year, we depend on the small cues of pink smoothies, heart-shaped kid's crafts and a proliferation of gift guides to help us shed the cobwebs of January and ease into Valentine's Day season. Love it or hate it, it's happening and we've got cozy ideas for everyone -- mostly you.

Inside Our Wellness Valentine's Day Gift Guide 2024

Tap over to The Shop for this year's gift curation, a year that feels like it's going to be all about self-care (necessary!), cutting through the noise, and finding small moments of private joy.

That in mind, here are a few of our favorite call-outs...

Not a Valentine's Day kind of gal? Or maybe you're the most? Either way, this plushest of plush robes is the answer. Curl up in this cushy masterpiece when you lock the door on February 14 or gift yourself and your significant other a robe for a V Day-worthy celebration. Fluff Co.'s robe will knock your socks off with its 5-star hotel quality that both Architectural Digest and Refinery29 have thrown awards at. It's the best we've tried and, as self-care advocates, that's saying something.

We knew that French brand, Sezane's red knitwear would be a non-negotiable for this year's gift guide. Cozy, sensual and the  color of the moment, red does best in these French styles we can't resist. As is happens, Sezane's red sweaters are nearly all sold out, which gives us even great confidence in this pick's status as a great gift. This cardigan is sustainable, layers up and down and will be worn for years to come.

Another 'evening at home' pick that suits any relationship status? These uber-popular pajamas from our holiday gift guide. Expect an incredibly soft wear (it's called 'Dream Knit' for a reason) and a flattering and fun kimono-like top. If you swiped one up for the holidays, grab the new red stripes.

Let's say you have a new vegan girlfriend and you found this list on Google. Head straight to this sweet woven Melie Bianco handbag made of vegan leather and don't look back. Bonus points for tucking ethical diamond jewelry inside.

For date night, body mists are back, and this Brazilian version from Sol de Janeiro is, in one word, intoxicating. Gisou's honey-infused hair perfume now comes in Wild Rose. It's clean-certified at Sephora and is possibly the most fun way to wear fragrance.

Finally, if it's a classic girls' night in with treats and treatments, splurge on the red light mask you've always wanted and pass it around the room. And consider this wildly effective ice roller from The Skinny Confidential. An aesthetician recently used it on us at the spa and we knew we had to have -- the questionable shape could be a hit at girl's night.

TCM Weekend Guide: The Holistic Wellness Enthusiast’s Guide To Sedona

best spas in sedona mii amo 2024

Here’s the thing about visiting Sedona, Arizona: nothing you do on your trip will be nearly as majestic as simply being in the presence of the expansive red rocks that surround the city. There are plenty of luxurious offerings to make your stay as wonderful as possible and experiences you might not have anywhere else, but the key to a holistic wellness weekend in Sedona is to tailor your itinerary to finding the best ways to sit in awe of the scenery.

The secret to that isn’t simply in the beauty of the vista alone—it’s also the vortex. Sedona is one of the most well known of these energy hubs in the U.S., a place that holds more energy than usual. These energy vortexes are thought to sit at the intersection of natural lines of energy, a center of electricity in the earth, where nature is exceptionally alive and healthy and vibrating. It’s said to heighten physical and emotional sensations, inner peace and self-awareness, and can even support and intensify healing and personal growth.

After a recent girls’ trip to Sedona that left us feeling more connected and calm than ever, we can confidently say there’s really something to this.

We’ve curated a few of our favorite spots to enjoy nature and soak up the energy—with the best views in the city. A holistic wellness weekend is focused on body (sleeping well, eating well, moving well), mind (expanding your knowledge, connecting with the local culture) and spirit (perfecting your crystal game, getting a balancing spa experience). Here’s everything you need to uplevel your experience and craft a perfect long weekend getaway in the desert vortex.

Where To Stay

enchantment arizonaEnchantment Resort | Nestled into the Boynton Canyon, this expansive retreat offers stunning views of the red rocks from almost every vantage point. Cozy casitas sprawl along the property with multiple swimming pools, tennis and pickleball courts, and a trail house to guide you on exploring your surrounding nature. Sip a Prickly Pear Margarita by the pool while deer graze peacefully in the meadow. We highly recommend staying at the Enchantment Resort during a night where their in-house astronomer guides you in a star gazing night like none other—you might get the chance to view Saturn in all its glory!

L’Auberge de Sedona | For something a little closer to shops and restaurants in Sedona, this resort has the perfect blend of peaceful forest views and easy access. Picturesque cottages sit creekside throughout the forest with outdoor showers to bring the whole experience outdoors. Wood-burning fireplaces set the mood and warm up cool desert evenings. Wander over to The Lodge for a gallery experience with artists in residence, or over to L’Apothecary Spa for their signature handmade blends. This unique luxury property has an outdoor lounge where you can relax by the fire, and a creekside beach for relaxing in a hammock and watching local wildlife.

Where To Eat

Mariposa | Consistently the first answer when asking for the best place to eat in Sedona, this Latin-inspired restaurant is situated along the main road on a scenic bluff with one of the most expansive vistas of the red rocks you can find. Chef Lisa Dahl is one of the pioneers of fine dining in the area and advance reservations are highly recommended.

Elote Cafe | Situated in the heart of the city, this award-winning Mexican restaurant is perfect for dinner after a day exploring the shops. Chef Jeff Smedstad specializes in the bold, flavorful cuisine of southern and deep interior Mexico and has been featured in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and more.

Where To Spa

mii amo spaMii Amo Spa | This award-winning and renowned destination spa is the sister property to the Enchantment Resort in Boynton Canyon. You’ve likely seen their stunning entrance and recent-renovation on many a Pinterest inspiration board as it’s been setting trends in luxury spas since its opening in 2001. The expansive offerings will provide you with any relaxation or transformative experience you’re after, but we highly recommend selecting from their Uniquely Mii amo experiences. Discover new clarity with a full Chakra Balancing or get in touch with deep emotions through an Intuitive Massage that combines energy work with conversation and massage. Tip: their signature hibiscus tea is not to be missed.

Wilde Haven Spa | New to the spa scene in Sedona after an expansion and renovation in 2021, this boutique spa experience is part of the Wilde Resort. With offerings deeply rooted in the local healing traditions, you’ll find yoga, meditation and oracle readings alongside clay wraps and deep tissue massage on the menu. We especially love their “Wellness Enhancements” which can be added to any appointment for a personalized experience. These include reiki and craniosacral therapy, as well as hot stones and CBD oils.

Where To Shop

Tlaquepaque Arts + Shopping Village | A haven of boutiques, restaurants and cafes is nestled just off the main drag in Sedona. A landmark under a canopy of sycamore trees since the ‘70s, this shopping center feels like a world unto itself with vine-covered stucco walls, intricate water features, cobblestone streets. Discover jewelry, fabrics and rugs from local artisans, a unique children’s boutique, a gorgeous spot for chai, live music tucked around corners, and so much more. Expect to spend hours exploring.
sedona shoppingCrystal Magic | There’s no better place to find a crystal that speaks to you than an energy vortex. And there’s no better place to explore those crystals than this storied shop that’s been serving the area since 1986. It’s unassuming from the outside, located in a strip mall, but the offerings are vast and the energy is palpable. It’s a must stop on any drive through town.

Where To Hike

Boynton Canyon | Renowned for its dramatic, 80 foot tall spire known as the Kachina Woman (representing a holy spirit according to the Hopi), Boynton Canyon is said to be one of the most highly concentrated areas of the energy vortex. Start your hike with a visit to the Kachina Woman to soak up divine feminine energy, then wind your way through the canyon. There’s plenty of options for a casual nature walk or more difficult climbs to unique views of the region. Hat and hydration highly recommended for this one as it’s easy to spend a few hours in this special place.

Red Rock State Park | This 286-acre nature preserve offers plenty of options for new and more adventurous hikers, plus a wide variety of flora and fauna to explore. It’s also an area that provides resources necessary for monarch butterflies on their migration patterns. Commonly seen from spring through early fall, Sedona sits on a migration path for butterflies. Book your stay in August or September for peak season and stop at Oak Creek for lunch to watch them on their way.

What’s In + Out for Wellness In 2024: On Trends and How They’re Changing

In + Out for Wellness In 2024 topanga retreat

You may be surprised to see an 'In and Out List' on our pages. After all, we're more likely to be found rolling our eyes over the popular January trend. Being well, enjoying life, and having great personal taste all have to do with embracing what you like and scrapping what you don't -- period!

Although that may be true for fashion and lifestyle trends, when it comes to wellness, In and Out Lists can often signify scientific and cultural advancements that we find important. As told in last year's Trend Report for 2023, technology has a lot to do with advancements in wellness now.

Losing overly generalized ideas about wellness and embracing personalized health are where the most precise gains in wellness are really had going forward.

Sound... expensive? It can be! As a wellness platform, we're all about popularizing these protocols and creating the demand that makes them more accessible in the long run. What's more important than all this growing tech? Listening to your own intuition -- that tech will be In every year for the foreseeable future!

Here are insights on what's In and Out for 2024 from health and wellness pros we trust....

Our In + Out List for Wellness In 2024

In: Intentional Living

Out: Glorifying Hustle Culture

There was a time that people wore their hours-per-week like a badge of honor– the higher the number the more prestigious the badge. That “work hard - play hard” mentality is something that we’ll see people leaving behind more-and-more in 2024.

Instead, intentional living, where we value time as the number one currency, will become the trend. The trauma and chaos that society has endured over the last few years as a result of the pandemic were a huge wake-up call about the importance of prioritizing mental health above all else. More than ever, we’ve realized that money isn’t the only important thing and that it certainly doesn’t equal happiness on its own. Carving out space for self-care rituals and quality time with the important people in our lives is going to take priority.

–Kate Lombardo, wellness educator and mindset coach, YogaRenew

Read: Tracee Stanley Debunks 5 Myths About Rest – Bye, Grind Culture

In: Cycle Syncing

Out: Ignoring your Flow

Unlike a man’s daily rhythm and hormones, a woman’s body runs on a monthly cycle, and it’s likely that most of our school-day sex education was focused more on contraception than teaching us about our bodies' unique constitution.

Cycle Syncing is a lifestyle approach that focuses on balancing your hormones by matching your diet and exercise routine to your menstrual cycle. At different points of your cycle, you have varying degrees of energy depending on what’s going on hormonally. During your menstrual phase, your body needs more rest and gentle movement – think: restorative yoga and hot girl walks. When you’re ovulating, and testosterone is pumping, you’ll thrive in a high intensity workout – think: HIIT, Weight lifting, or big cardio days! In the stages between: the follicular and luteal phases, light to moderate exercise is encouraged – think: vinyasa yoga, pilates, or a fun, dance cardio class.

I started cycle synching two years ago, and have felt such a massive change in the way I feel, physically, mentally and emotionally. Beyond workouts and diets, I’ve gone as far as mapping out my flow on my google calendar and consciously planning events and work meetings around when I’ll be feeling my best, it’s been a game changer!

–Lindsay Monal, sound meditation expert, reiki master, and yoga teacher

In: Vagus Nerve Stimulation

Out: Exercise Burnout

One of the biggest focuses for 2024 is vagus nerve stimulation. Meditation, reiki, breathwork, massage therapy and any other somatic healing practice you can think of are all powerful ways to activate your vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in our body that helps regulate our internal organ functioning. It is also the key to tapping in our parasympathetic nervous system. This is the system referred to as the “rest and digest” system.

When we increase our vagal “tone” we increase our feelings of positive emotions, deeper connection to ourselves and experience general good health. This year make a commitment to yourself to practice stimulating your vagus nerve daily like a simple meditation, a short breathwork practice or even just a round of resonant humming. Engaging in any somatic practice or mindful body work can allow you to access the vagus nerve and create the stimulation that is key to move towards healing!

–Katie Healy, breathwork facilitator and certified reiki practitioner

Read: Vagus, Baby: How Toning Your Vagus Nerve Could Change Your Life

In: At-Home Testing

Out: Doctors Offices

2024 will be the year of at-home testing and virtual doctor visits thanks to companies creating mail-in services. These can help those with limited mobility, those located far away from a lab, or anyone with a busy schedule. At-home testing can be used for several different matters, including: informal diagnosis of a health issue, health screening, disease risk assessment, and wellness optimization.

Tests like the Prenuvo full-body scan made headlines in 2023, but you don’t necessarily have to get an expensive test to increase your longevity. I recommend to many patients the TruDiaganostic Biological Age test, which is an at-home test that can tell you your current age on a biological level, as well as how quickly or slowly your body is aging. I also recommend GI-MAP or Genova GI, two at-home stool tests, to any patients suffering from gut issues. These tests provide detailed information about the microbiome, digestive function, and other factors related to gut health.

In: PEMF Therapy

Out: Invasive Procedures

Though Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy has been around for a while, we can expect its popularity to grow in 2024, especially as the tech surrounding it continues to improve. PEMF technology helps to generate energy within your cells without any kind of invasive procedure. Instead, it sends magnetic energy through the body, which works together with your body’s preexisting magnetic field to improve healing. The magnetic energy produces electrolytes and ions, as well and increases cellular metabolism. PEMF is not only an option for those dealing with chronic pain, but also for those looking to enhance their body’s natural processes and reverse aging.

In: Wellness Retreats

Out: Mindless Vacationing

We’ve all been on an over scheduled, over priced vacation that has left us feeling like we needed another vacation after that vacation. While there’s always a time and a place for whatever your type of fun is, in the last few years we are seeing how much we as a society are craving a slower pace not only in our day to day but also our vacationing.

Whether it’s a staycation while attending your favorite classes and holistic offerings in your neighborhood or traveling to a week long silent meditation retreat abroad, wellness retreats are continuing to rise in popularity for 2024. These types of retreats take self care to a whole new level. A wellness retreat is an opportunity to explore a deeper practice of self-care. Whether you go with a group or alone, you have the opportunity to truly recalibrate and restore a sense of self that is unmatched. Companies like YogaRenew are even offering new courses on how to host a successful, organized yoga retreat.

Hacking Happiness: How To Feel Good According To A Brain Scientist

how to feel good woman portrait in mood

Did you know that when you smile your brain releases 'happiness hormones' like dopamine and serotonin? The mind-body connection has always been real, but more of us are waking up to just how important managing our thoughts and emotions are to our physical health.

In an age when many of us have embraced the glorification of stress, negative emotions can go unchecked, leaving us feeling low, exhausted, depleted and worse.

No one can define happiness for you, but you -- however, understanding the chemistry at work in your body when you're feeling good can lead to more of the same.

Dopamine is a well-researched neurochemical said to be partially responsible for our perception of happiness, and pleasure keenly related to functions of focus, interest, thinking and planning. Let’s look at how dopamine functions, as well as simple ways to activate its participation in our daily life.

We talked to our go-to herbalist, Adriana Ayales of Anima Mundi in NYC about how she addresses these key  neurochemicals from an herbal standpoint. But, first, some lifestyle support for dopamine from brain scientist, Loretta Graziano Breuning, Ph.D.

Dr. Breuning On 3 Habits To Support Dopamine

Here’s how to feel happier by increasing dopamine. Implementing the following habits are small ways to feel good on a short-term and long-term basis when practiced regularly...

01 Celebrate Small Victories | You have some success every day. Commit to finding it and saying, “I did it!”.

You will not conduct a symphony at Carnegie Hall every day. You will not lead starving hordes into the Promised Land every day. To feel good on a regular basis, adjust your expectations so you can be pleased with something you actually do. This doesn’t mean you are lowering your expectations, or are “full of yourself,” or losing touch with reality. It means you are lingering on your gains the way you already linger on your losses (which, as I’m sure you can imagine, is not a key for how to feel better).

Celebrating small steps towards success triggers more dopamine than 'saving it up' for one big achievement. Big accomplishments don’t make you feel happy forever, so if you always tie happiness to a far-off goal, you may end up frustrated.

Instead, learn to be happy with your progress. You will not be celebrating with champagne and caviar each day. You will be giving yourself permission to have a sense of accomplishment. This feeling is better than external rewards. It’s free, it has no calories, and it doesn’t impair your driving. You have a small victory every day. Why not enjoy it and feel good in the process?

At first, it might feel silly to look for reasons to pat yourself on the back, and the reasons you come up with might make you uncomfortable. Still, commit to doing this whether or not it feels good. You can decide to be worthy of your own applause and enjoy the feeling, even if just for a split second. If it feels fake or forced, that’s normal, because the circuits that berate your accomplishments feel strong and true.

Celebrating small accomplishments is a valuable skill, not only because it’s one of the ways to feel happier, but also because big things come from many small steps. You won’t take those steps if you are just running on the fumes of the last big thing.

Finally, your daily triumph will feel better if it doesn’t depend on one-upping someone. If you have to win in ways that make someone lose, you limit yourself and end up with side effects. You can celebrate what you are creating instead of just who you are defeating.

02 Take Small Steps Toward Those Large Goals | It doesn’t take much time or money to step toward a goal. Just commit ten minutes a day and you will feel momentum instead of feeling stuck.

Ten minutes is not enough to move mountains, but it’s enough to approach the mountains and see them accurately. Instead of dreaming about your goal from afar, you can gather the information you need to plan realistically. Your goals might change as your information grows. You might even learn that your fantasy goal would not make you feel happy.

Those ten-minute investments can free you from unnecessary regret and help you find a hill you can actually climb and feel good in the process. Your ten-minute efforts can define manageable steps so you’re not just waiting for huge leaps that never come.

journal

If you think you can’t spare ten minutes a day, consider the time you already spend dreaming of what you’d rather be doing. You can use that time to research the necessary steps needed to reach your goal. You will get a dopamine feeling each day as those steps come into view. You will start to expect that dopamine feeling and look forward to it. You will learn to feel that it’s possible to transform a dream into reality with steady effort.

When your ten minutes are over, go back to living in the present, which is another hack for how to feel good and happy: do not make a habit of focusing constantly on the future.

Take action, don’t just daydream. Spend your time on concrete action. Don’t spend it fantasizing about quitting your day job or pressuring others to help you. Dig into practical realities instead. Do this faithfully for forty-five days and you will begin to feel better and have the habit of moving forward.

03 Divide Unpleasant Tasks Into Smaller Portions | Everyone has a dreaded task they’d rather forget about. It might be the mess inside your closets or the mess inside an important relationship. One method for how to feel happier is to commit to spending ten minutes a day on your dreaded task. You don’t need to have the solution when you start, only the willingness to keep stepping.

closet items

You may think it’s impossible to clean out closets or renegotiate relationships in ten-minute chunks. But if you wait for grand solutions, you may languish for quite a long time.

Instead, go to that closet, pull out one chunk of mess, and sort it out for ten minutes. Go to that yucky relationship riddled with disappointment and plant goodwill for ten minutes.

You might not feel happier right away, but don’t let a day go by without tackling another chunk. Keep it up for forty-five days and you will be comfortable tackling the annoyances that stand in the way of making your life feel better.

Of course, you can’t control other people the way you can control the contents of your closet. But you will replace a bad feeling with a good feeling if you keep trying. And you will keep trying because your positive expectations trigger dopamine, which is one of the neurochemical ways to feel good.

Your dreaded task may miraculously resolve itself in less than forty-five days! If so, don’t stop. Find another mess that needs cleaning up and keep going for forty-five more days. That’s what builds the habit of facing tough challenges in small increments instead of being intimidated by them. Remember to feel good about what you’ve done each day. Soon, you’ll have the habit of tackling obstacles and feeling rewarded by them, which is a great way to feel happy.

04 Adjust Your Goals Every 45 Days | Good feelings flow when the level of challenge you face is “just right.”

For example, if a basketball hoop is too low, you get no pleasure from scoring points, but if it’s too high, you have no reason to try. The effort is fun when you expect a reward for your effort, but it’s not certain. Adjust the "hoops" in your life  to make things fun.

One way of doing this it to experiment with raising and lowering the bar in your life for forty-five day periods. In areas where you have set yourself impossible goals, lower them. Where you've raised the bar so low that you feel no reward, consider raising them.

Anima Mundi's Mood-Boosting Herbal Coffee

Adriana Ayales is the founder of Anima Mundi and procured these dopamine-boosting tips from Dr. Breuing just for us. Ayales has blended some of the top researched herbs for mood optimization into Anima Mundi's new Happiness Powder, an herbal coffee alternative with Mucuna, Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Albizzia and St John's Wort.
anima mundi adaptogens
According to Adriana, "It's a product our customers have been asking us for, as it contains many of the herbs in our Happiness Tonic, but makes it easy to blend into a delicious, caffeine-free latte in the mornings. We've blended these herbs into a base of rich, roasty flavors that mimic coffee's flavor with benefits all their own -- roasted dandelion, roasted chicory, maca, lucuma, burdock, mesquite and real organic vanilla.

You can learn everything about our mood-boosting Herbal Coffee here, but let's talk about the star ingredient, Mucuna

Mucuna: "The Dopamine Bean"

Mucuna Pruriens is one of the only naturally occurring (and certainly most concentrated) sources of L-Dopa, a precursor to dopamine. In fact, Mucuna is so rich in the dopamine precursor L-Dopa that it is sometimes used as an herbal alternative treatment for Parkinson’s disease, which is believed to be caused (in part) by a lack of the essential neurotransmitter (dopamine).

Mucuna Pruriens is used in herbalism as a natural support for dopamine, serotonin, and tryptamine and many other mood-influencing neurochemical known. Mucuna has traditionally been used in herbalism as a non-addictive antidepressant or mood enhancer.

Other herbs for mood-enhancement in the Anima Mundi's Herbal Coffee include...

Albizia | Dubbed the “herbal Prozac” by Chinese herbalists and acupuncturists, TCM has long revered this tree for supporting the body during times of anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, and depression.

Ashwagandha | A mood stabilizer and insomnia support reliever, this evergreen adaptogenic shrub can sometimes lower cortisol levels without any side effects or withdrawal.

Rhodiola Root | Popular since ancient times in Siberia, this adaptogen has long been used to enhance mental and physical endurance. It also supports adrenal gland function and encourages a healthy response to physical, mental, and emotional stress. Rhodiola’s anti-stress and fatigue-fighting properties, in addition to its ability to help support libido, reestablish balance among hormonal functions and support optimal brain health, make it one of the greatest botanicals available anywhere today.

St. John’s Wort | Besides easing symptoms of depression in some, this herb is also reported to act as a positive nerve tonic for the nervous system and support the relief of anxiety, tension, stress, irritability and sleep-related issues. It also stimulates the release of the “happy hormone”, serotonin.

We've blended all these supportive herbs into a roasty blend of healthful, classic coffee alternatives like dandelion and chicory. Superfoods like cinnamon, lucuma, vanilla and mesquite all lend a delicious, lightly sweet flavor you'll love, all with benefits of their own.

From oat milk lattes to walnut 'parmesan' and vegan cheesecake, plant-based dairy alternatives have become their own delicious food group. Food writer and cookbook author, Kat Odell, recently turned us on to the brand new NYC-based cultured cashew cream cheese from Monty's .monty's Cashew Cream Cheese

Monty's is the brainchild of Lauren Montgomery, a certified health coach who left the world of fashion to train as a chef at the Natural Gourmet Institute and Blue Hill Stone Barns. Combining her great taste with a passion for healing foods, Lauren's rainbow of vegan cheese offerings is landing on the prettiest cheese plates around town and we've got her incredible recipe.

What I Ate: Monty’s nut-based cheeses

Why I Ate It: Aside from the fact that these nut-based cheeses are simply stunning to look at — hello, tie-dye cheese! — they’re both nutritious and super delicious, too.

Why You Need It: I love cheese — mostly because I'm addicted to foods with umami. But I don’t always want to eat traditional cheeses made from dairy. I’ve tried zillions of plant-based cheeses in the past, and even dabbled at making my own. But the absolute most delicious versions I’ve come across are the rainbow of cultured nut-based cheese made by six-month-old Monty’s. Founder Lauren Montgomery ditched a job at Balenciaga to go nuts. She currently sells six flavors of cultured cashew wheels (semi-firm) and three cultured cashew cream cheeses — the perfect vegan bagel topper. She also makes feta and ricotta upon request. Some of my favorite flavors include cultured cashew beet, cultured cashew blue basil majik and mac crac (a tie-dye macadamia cheese).

We Discovered This Life-Changing Sleep Product From Jessica Chastain’s Wind-Down Routine

jessica chastain sleep product routine

Actress, producer, and overall dream girl, Jessica Chastain was recently announced as the face of one of our favorite clean skincare  brands, True Botanicals. Joining an esteemed roster of celebrity devotees from Olivia Wilde to Laura Dern, Chastain has been making the rounds lately, singing the praises of True Botanicals to some of our favorite beauty outlets.

Earlier this month, she walked Harper's Bazaar through her nighttime routine in their Go to Bed With Me series. Naturally, we were curious to learn which of the True Botanicals products the beauty uses every day, but what really caught our eye was this melatonin and magnesium-packed lotion the actress says she puts on her feet each night...

Inside Jessica Chastain's Nighttime Routine

jessica_chastain true nighttime routine

Taking off your makeup each night is a non-negotiable for those of us committed to great skin. Even more important? A full night's sleep. While the first takes a little discipline, the second sometimes feels out of our control. Jessica share a few of her favorite product that meet both needs:

True Botanicals Ginger Turmeric Cleansing Balm | To thoroughly wash the day away, Chastain uses True Botanical's viral cleansing balm. The balm is beloved by so many as it effectively removes every trace of makeup without stripping the skin. It's packed with anti-inflammatory ingredients like ginger and turmeric to support your best skin ever.

True Botanicals Phyto-Retinol Sleep Serum | Jessica's serum of choice? True Botanicals' retinol offering. Powered by Peptilium® which has been clinically proven to work 2X faster and better than traditional retinol, the 'phyto-retinol' is also safe for even most sensitive skin types. If you've been looking for a retinol that'll deliver benefits without the traditional irritation, this is the product to try.

Asutra 'Dream The Night Away' Natural Sleep Lotion | Chastain's True Botanicals picks were no surprise to us - half the women we know in clean beauty swear by TB for a skincare routine that effectively calms breakouts and beyond. But the new-to-us product that surprised us? In the video, Jess reveals her ritual with this sleep-supportive lotion by Asutra. According to Chastain, she slathers this magnesium and melatonin-packed lotion on her feet each night to support a healthy sleep routine.

It turns out that Asutra is co-owned by none other than tennis god, Venus Williams. We did a little digging and found that Williams discovered the brand herself by using this product at a photo shoot. Within a short amount of time, she was so sleepy she could barely finish the day! She soon became devoted to using the lotion at the proper time when she actually needed it -- before bed. After connecting with Astura's founder, Stephanie Morimoto, Venus joined the self-care brand as Chief Brand Officer.

After Jess' compelling endorsement, we checked our email history, and sure enough the product had been pitched to us in the past, but had gone overlooked! We've since tried the lotion just as Jessica recommends and can attest that this is a must-have for anyone looking to support a healthy sleep routine and get to bed when they need to for their schedule! We also think it makes a great product for travel to support sleep in a new time zone.

How To Make Creamy, High-Protein Yogurt Cheese To Put On All The Things

It's love at first sight: a lightly toasted olive oil-drizzled baguette topped with caramelized roasted tomatoes, and finished with a schmear of, not cream cheese, but a tangy protein-rich, fermented yogurt cheese. There are a hundred and one ways in which we can imagine enjoying this recipe from Janet Fletcher's aptly named cookbook Yogurt.

To be fair, labneh is a strained yogurt dish made in Lebanese culture for centuries, but we're struck how rarely we come across it -- especially with home cooks. Far lighter and more nutrient-dense than cream cheese and most other dairy-based dips, 'yogurt cheese' isn’t really cheese at all. This recipe simply thickens store-bought or homemade yogurt into a soft, cream cheese-like consistency that deserves to be a staple in your fridge. Make it with coconut yogurt for a vegan version, if you prefer!

Make at home and try it spread on this warm roasted tomato toast...

How To Make Yogurt Cheese

From the author: I often drain yogurt, especially homemade yogurt, even if only for an hour. Draining dramatically improves the texture, making any yogurt thicker, creamier, and more mellow by removing whey. Draining also extends the yogurt’s life by removing water and lactose. Reducing the yogurt’s lactose deprives bacteria of their food source. And if you are lactose-sensitive, you should find drained yogurt more digestible. This creates a "yogurt cheese" that can be used in countless recipes, like the bruschetta below. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS + SUPPLIES

1 pint of store-bought or homemade yogurt - try our favorite DIY recipe HERE
Kosher or sea salt
Sieve or colander
Cheesecloth

DIRECTIONS

Store-bought yogurt has already been chilled, so you can drain it immediately after opening. To drain homemade yogurt, chill it thoroughly first until it is firm. You can drain it as soon as it is cold.

Line a large sieve or colander with a triple thickness of dampened cheesecloth or—my preference—with Plyban, a reusable cheesecloth made from a food-grade resin. Plyban’s weave is tighter than cheesecloth, so you don’t need multiple layers, although with very thin yogurt I might use a double thickness.

Set the sieve or colander over a bowl to collect the whey. Gently pour the yogurt into the lined sieve or colander.

Cover with a plate or cloth – you’re just protecting the yogurt, not pressing it – and refrigerate. Drain the yogurt until it has the consistency you like. After an hour, it will be noticeably thicker, and I usually stop at that point. Scrape the drained yogurt into a clean container, cover, and refrigerate.

Wash the cheesecloth well in hot, soapy water; rinse well and air-dry. You can usually get two or three uses out of cheesecloth before it frays.

If you drain the yogurt more than you intended, no problem. Simply whisk some of the whey back in until you have a texture you like. To keep the whey, pour it into a glass jar and refrigerate. It has many potential uses.

After 2 hours of draining, stir in 1 ⁄ 2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt for every quart of yogurt that you started with. Return to the refrigerator and continue draining until the yogurt is as thick as cream cheese, about 24 hours total. From a quart of milk, you should yield 1 1 ⁄ 2  to 1 3 ⁄ 4 cups of yogurt cheese.

Roasted Tomato Bruschetta With Yogurt Cheese

Serves 6

INGREDIENTS:

For the bruschetta:
6 plum (Roma) tomatoes, about 1 lb, halved lengthwise
2 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
11 ⁄ 2 tsp dried oregano
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
kosher or sea salt
12 baguette slices, cut on the diagonal about 1 ⁄ 2 inch thick
3 ⁄ 4 cup yogurt cheese (directions below
fresh basil leaves, for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 300°F. Put the tomatoes cut side up in a shallow baking dish just large enough to hold them in a single layer. Drizzle with olive oil. Season with oregano, crumbling the dried herb between your fingers to release its fragrance. Dot the tomatoes with minced garlic and season with salt. Bake until the tomatoes are very soft and beginning to caramelize but still hold their shape, 2 to 3 hours, depending on their size and ripeness. Using a pastry brush, baste the tomatoes with any pan juices – the tomatoes may not release much – every 45 minutes or so.

Let cool slightly. The tomatoes are best warm, not hot.

Preheat a broiler or toaster oven. Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast on both sides until golden brown.

Spread one side of each toast with 1 tablespoon yogurt cheese.

Top with a warm roasted tomato half. (You can halve the tomatoes lengthwise first so they cover more of the toast surface.) Garnish with the basil leaves and serve immediately.

Smoothie Cubes, Blender Bread + Sheet Pan Dinners with Superfoodie Sophie Jaffe

superfood tips from sophie jaffe

Superfoodie Sophie Jaffe is a yogi, wellness expert, founder of superfood brand Philosophie, and mama to three beautiful children here in Los Angeles.

It’s a Tuesday morning and you’re already running 10 minutes late for everything. If you've ever tossed your kids a snack bar on the way out the door and told yourself you’ll just wait until lunch, I get it and I've been there.

Juggling our full, yet abundant, lives can leave us with little time to focus on the nourishment we're really craving. Busy mornings and hectic schedules make it all too easy to fall into unhealthy, but convenient patterns that leave us feeling less than vibrant.best smoothie recipe

These are the time-saving meal hacks I put to work from week to week that make life a whole lot easier. They enable me to eat with intention, even when I don't have hours to spend in the kitchen during the week. Take away a few of my favorite tips and tricks as a mama of three for enjoying delicious, nutritious meals with minimal effort.

6 Time-Saving Meal Hacks with Sophie Jaffe

01 make Your Blender work for you | One of the most versatile kitchen appliances you can own is a blender. Leave your blender out on the counter and whenever you’re in a rush, turn to it for a quick smoothie, blender bread, waffles or pancakes, superfood coffee, or quick pesto sauce!

Maximize your blender's potential by preparing smoothie ingredients in bulk, portioning them into resealable containers, and freezing them. When you're in a hurry, simply grab a bag, add liquid, and blend! No need to wash a ton of dishes every morning.

Read Next: Make Friends With Your Freezer: 14 Ideas For Faster Snacks + Less Food Waste

02 Add Nutrients To Your Morning Coffee |
I can’t start my day without a superfood coffee. I find that daily rituals like coffee, meditation, and movement are absolutely CRUCIAL for my sanity -- even if I only have ten minutes to devote to them. I’ve been adding my Philosophie Cacao Magic Superfood Blend to my coffee for years now with our Coconut Magic Coconut Butter for an energizing hit of nutrition. Because of the healthy fats, there’s NO crash which I really appreciate and it brings me joy and sanity when I’m feeling off-balance.

You can easily adapt a coffee like this to whatever you need for the day by adding extra mood boosters. If you’re looking for a high-vibe, uplifting boost without the crash, this does the trick!

03 Freeze Smoothie Ice Cubes |
Love a smoothie or functional latte in the AM, but don't feel like you have time? Again, all you have to do is a bit of prep in advance. Combine ingredients (including the powders) into a blender with just a tiny bit of liquid, such as water and then spread the thick mixture into large ice cube molds using a spatula or spoon. Freeze overnight and when you are ready to enjoy a quick smoothie, you've got all the ingredients waiting for you in the freezer. Just pop the smoothie cubes into your blender with some water or a plant-based milk, and blend. Rinse the blender and you are done!philosophie smoothies

04 Try Sheet Pan Meals | Sheet pan meals involve roasting all your ingredients on a single baking sheet. It's a quick and efficient way to make a complete meal, with minimal cleanup. Think vegetables, salmon, but also pancakes! Freeze them in reusable Stasher bags for easy morning breakfasts! Pop in the oven to rewarm.

05 Prep Your Snacks | The reason most of us grab a bag of chips or a morning muffin is because it is instant. Plan for the week by making your own snack bags that are just as convenient when hunger strikes!

Make your own granola, trail-mix, or veggie sticks in advance. Store snacks in zip-up bags or small mason jars ready to go. Spend some time chopping a variety of fruits and storing them in bags in the fridge. This way, you'll have a stash of healthy snack option that require just as little effort!

My favorite snack hack? Have a fresh pressed juice and a jar of coconut butter on hand. It’s the best pair of nutrients with healthy fats to keep you moving throughout your day.

06 Focus On Elevated Hydration | Keeping your body hydrated is key to staying energized throughout your day. I love to elevate my water on the daily with the detoxifying power of concentrated liquid chlorophyll and mint essential oils. Staying hydrated keeps us well-balanced and overflowing with energy. When you harness the power of plants you provide your body with vibrant skin, optimal digestion, a strong gut, and immunity.

Using time-saving food hacks can help you maintain a nutritious diet, even on the busiest days. By preparing snacks in advance and utilizing clever techniques like pre-freezing your smoothies into ice cubes, you can eat with intention, even when you're short on time. So, instead of being overwhelmed by meal planning and preparation, embrace these tips to make your meals more manageable and enjoyable. It's all about finding that beautiful balance that lets you explore, but never explode.

My Graceful Aging Beauty Smoothie

Ingredients:
½ cup frozen blueberries
½ frozen banana
½ cup frozen raspberries
1 cup coconut water
2 handfuls fresh greens (spinach, kale)
1 tbsp Philosophie Berry Bliss Superfood Blend
1 tbsp coconut nutter

Directions:
Blitz all ingredients in a high-powered blender until smooth. Add more ice or milk as needed. Either pour in your favorite glass or transform into a smoothie bowl + top with more bananas and berries!

2024 Journaling Prompts For Each Human Design Type – Do You Know Yours?

human design 2024

We're obsessed with Human Design. As is Alexandra Cole, a former corporate consultant turned Human Design coach. After a decade of helping Fortune 500’s identify and articulate their “why”, she pivoted to help individuals, families and couples do the same using Human Design. All of her content and offerings are inspired by her passion for creating highly practical, actionable strategies that empower people to optimize their relationships, well-being, careers, finances, and family life.

The transition to a new calendar year can feel loaded. On the one hand, it feels full of potential and new opportunities. It’s a clean slate. On the other hand, this can result in a tremendous amount of pressure. Pressure to make the most of it. To do the things we didn’t get around to the year before. To change bad habits and start healthier ones.

alexandra cole human design

But setting intentions for the new year shouldn’t feel stressful. It should feel inspiring. And the secret to achieving this, I’ve found, is setting goals that play to your strengths. How does one do that, you might be wondering? Well, let me introduce you to something called Human Design.

Human Design is part spiritual system, part self-awareness tool. Bringing together several ancient modalities, including astrology, the chakras, and kabbalah, Human Design is grounded in the belief that we’re all designed to be different on purpose. Your Human Design chart—based on your birth time, date and place—represents a roadmap to the way your unique energy is designed to express itself in the most authentic and effortless way possible. In other words, it’s a blueprint to being your truest self. It may not sound revolutionary, but in a world where we’re faced with a myriad of pressures to conform to a certain way of doing things—whether it’s work, love, diet or parenting—it’s easy to lose sight of your own internal guidance system. Human Design reminds you of your YOU-ness and gives you permission to do life in the way that feels most supportive and fulfilling for you.

If you want to set better goals for 2024, the first place to look is your energy type. To find your energy type, simply enter your birth information here and get your free chart. At the top of the list of chart properties, you will see one of the following five types listed: generator, manifestor, manifesting generator, projector, or reflector.

Your energy type describes how you’re built to invest energy in order to get the greatest return on that investment. Not all of us are here to grind it out, for example. Some of us work best in short, intense bursts (projectors), while others thrive when making consistent, moderate progress over longer periods of time (generators and manifesting generators). Some of us are here to initiate new things (manifestors), while others prefer to refine or amplify what already exists (projectors and reflectors).

Playing to your strengths means focusing on the one thing in life you can control: how you invest your most precious asset, your energy. Each of the five energy types is designed to do this slightly differently and by allowing your type to inform what or who you choose to pour your energy into in the year ahead, you can ensure that you'll achieve the best results with the least amount of resistance along the way.

To help guide your intention-setting, consider reflecting on the prompts below to ensure that you’re approaching these goals in the most aligned way for you and setting yourself up for success in 2024 (and beyond):

+ Manifestors | What would you do or how would you do it if you didn't have to justify yourself or your decisions to anyone? What would you start or initiate? How might you have the greatest impact, even if it means disappointing or shocking some people? What goals feel the most urgent to you?

+ Generators | What would you do or how would you do it if you prioritized 100% for your own joy? What would you do if you took your mind (i.e., rational thinking) out of the equation and followed your gut? What goals feel most exciting to you?

+ Manifesting Generators | What would you do or how would you do it if you let go of the "shoulds" and created your own rules? What would you do if you took your mind (i.e., rational thinking) out of the equation and followed your gut? What goals feel most exciting to you?

+ Projectors | What would you do or how would you do it if you leaned into the gifts that come most effortlessly to you instead of pushing/forcing things that don't? How would you work/operate if you stopped comparing yourself and your productivity patterns to others? What goals feel most effortless to you?

+ Reflectors | What would you do or how would you do it if your only goal was to feel good? What people or environments would you seek out? How might you practice even more presence?

I encourage you to continue learning about your design to discover how this tool can empower you to live out your purpose in the most effortless and fulfilling way. If you’re new to Human Design, these free energy type cheat sheets are a great place to start. If you’re already familiar with the basics of your design, this personalized report translates the more advanced chart aspects to help you optimize your well-being and lifestyle. Understanding The Hormone + Cholesterol Connection With Certified Holistic Nutritionist Elissa Goodman

elissa goodman

Did you know that many of your hormones are made with cholesterol? And that Vitamin D is, too? With statin being one of the most prescribed drugs out there, keeping an eye out for high cholesterol is a persistent concern for many. But as we know in the holistic world of wellness, there's always more to the story. Elissa Goodman, Certified Holistic Nutritionist, breaks down the the cholesterol and hormone connection that everyone should know.

Understanding The Hormone + Cholesterol Connection

"If you’ve been told that you have 6 months, 3 months, a year to lower your cholesterol or you’ll need a statin, please do not panic. You need to be tested for other inflammatory markers, infections, and even hormone levels before resorting to a statin. I am always talking about the importance of addressing your health holistically, and this is a prime example.

You may be wondering... how could hormones be involved in my cholesterol levels?! Well, every hormone that is a steroid hormone like progesterone, testosterone, estrogen, they all come from cholesterol. 80% of that cholesterol is a low density lipoprotein (LDL) which is known as the “Bad Cholesterol.” We actually need LDL cholesterol, in moderation of course, to create hormones.

So if your hormones are out of balance... You’re gonna be producing more LDL cholesterol to compensate. This is such an important connection to make before adopting a fear mindset about your cholesterol—it is not always a heart disease issue if you have rising cortisol! And you do not need to resort to a statin right off the bat.

I would love to work with you and discuss lifestyle shifts and support you on your healing journey. Let’s get your bloodwork results into optimal levels so you can start feeling better than ever!”

If you've recently been given a timeline for lowering your cholesterol from your doctor, it's best to speak with them about doing additional blood work and hormone sleuthing that could be key to understanding your whole picture of health. Working with a nutritionist may not have crossed your mind, but adding a Certified Holistic Nutritionist like Elissa to your wellness team may add useful perspective as you analyze your health and your options around lifestyle choices. Nutrient-Dense Fava Bean Purée To Mix Up Your Hummus Obsession

fava beans with chicory recipe

If you like hummus, you will love this classic dish from Puglia in Michael Crupain's The Power Five: Essential Foods For Optimum Health. Fave e Cicoria is made from dried fava beans and topped with extra-virgin olive oil and bitter greens, which assertively cut into the warmth of the beans. You can get dried fava beans from Middle Eastern markets or online. (Bob’s Red Mill sells already blanched versions that are a big time-saver, because you don’t have to soak them before cooking.)

In his recipe, Michael recommends using radicchio (in the chicory family), which adds a crimson kiss against the pale yellow beans, but you can sub in sauteed broccoli rabe or a green of your choice.

Fave e Cicoria (aka Fava Bean Purée with Chicory)

Serves 4 to 6
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:
1 cup dried fava beans, soaked in water overnight*
1 tsp salt, plus more to taste
1 radicchio (or other vegetable of choice)
Juice of 1 lemon
Olive oil

*If you use Bob’s Red Mill shelled, blanched fava beans, skip soaking overnight and simply proceed with the recipe as directed.

Directions:
1. Drain and rinse the soaked beans, and add to a large, heavy stockpot with 3 cups water and the salt. Bring to a boil, skim off any foam from the top, and reduce the heat to simmer. Cook for 1 hour or until the beans easily break up. If the beans are not soft enough, add more water and cook longer as needed.
2. Use an immersion blender to blend the beans into a smooth purée. If the purée becomes too thick, add more water to loosen it up. Season with salt to taste.
3. Separate the leaves of the radicchio, and put them in a bowl of ice water to soak for at least 30 minutes (this helps reduce the bitterness). When ready to serve, drain and pat dry. Season with salt, lemon juice, and olive oil.
4. To serve, place the fava purée in a bowl. Top with desired amount of olive oil and the radicchio.

The Women Of Selling Sunset Tried Infrared Cardio, So I Tried It Too

cosmo contour infrared cardio

If you’ve been watching Selling Sunset lately, then you, like me, saw Emma Hernan and Breana Tiesi “have a kiki” during season 7. The ladies met in a pink-lit fitness studio while straddling large spinning contraptions I had never seen before (that neither one of them knew what to do with).

After aggressively searching the internet, I discovered that the real estate queens were visiting Cosmo Contour, an under-the-radar infrared fitness studio here in L.A. The body sculpting studio claimed to transform, heal, and repair the body in just 30 minutes. Now that’s some serious multitasking.
cosmo contour selling sunsetGiven that I’m obsessed with all things infrared related, I decided to go far (infrared joke) outside of my comfort zone to try the studio’s unusual tech for myself.

Cosmo Contour’s Infrared Cardio Capsules

Cosmo Contour’s founder, Nicole King, has combined infrared tech with everyday workout machines for a unique experience designed to quickly sculpt clients’ bodies without any invasive treatments or procedures.

Working out while feeling like you’re stuck in the sauna? It could be hot and miserable, but Cosmo Contour’s infrared cardio devices have been carefully designed to provide a balanced, yet comfortable challenge. You can feel the benefits after spending just 30 minutes on any given machine—you don’t need more than that! The heat penetrates deeply into the body for a workout so quick, effective, and painless, I’m surprised it’s still so easy to book.

“We have infrared treadmill capsules, infrared ellipticals, infrared bike capsules, infrared stairmasters, and infrared body rollers,” Nicole shared. “They are all designed to enhance your workout or body sculpting treatments, delivering benefits such as infrared lymphatic drainage, infrared muscle recovery, and improved circulation.”

Cosmo Contour isn’t meant to replace your regular workout, but rather serve as an enhanced complement to other types of regimens you’re already doing. At just $35 per session, Nicole says that most see results even with just one-to-three times per week.

The Benefits Of Infrared + Cardio Combined

If you’ve been on The Chalkboard lately, you know that we, too, believe in all things infrared. Some benefits of infrared cardio include:

+ Burns 600-1200 calories in 30 minutes
+ Enhances the body’s detoxification processes
+ Strengthens the immune system
+ Reduces the appearance of cellulite
+ Improves sleep
+ Helps pain and inflammation
+ Boosts metabolism
+ Increases energy levels
+ Promotes muscle recovery
+ Lymphatic drainage

My 30 Minute Cosmo Contour Workout

I went into my Cosmo Contour workout having already completed a circuit training class that morning, viewing my session as the ultimate recovery boost. What I got was so much more than that.

The studio feels like a nightclub—without the expansive crowds. If anything, the space felt private and contained, making it 10x less overwhelming than a traditional gym.

Since I had already “given” that day, Nicole’s team suggested I head straight to the recumbent bike capsule for my 30 minutes, highlighting that the bike and elliptical were their most “effective” machines.
cosmo contourFor the next 30 minutes, the recumbent bike and I were enclosed in the infrared pod from the waist down. Nicole told me that wherever my body needed “extra attention” would turn red from the heat since the infrared had a powerful way of targeting stagnation, and that I would feel the heat quite quickly. At first, the heat just felt soothing, but I soon remembered that infrared heats your body from the core, leading to a deeper internal heat from the inside out over time.

By the end of my 30 minutes, I was drenched in the most satisfying way possible, and I was able to look at my newsfeed and respond to my emails while busting out a workout.

Now, the best part: The Infrared Body Roller that my Selling Sunset girlies used on the show.

This was my moment to ring my own fitness bell (IYKYK). Enhanced with infrared technology, Cosmo Contour’s exclusive body rollers are designed to mimic the precision of a masseuse’s fingers, offering a far superior experience to a traditional flat roller.

“Specifically designed to manipulate the lymphatic system, these rollers promote movement and enhance the effectiveness of the massage. Our lymphatic massage machines feature hidden infrared lamps, widening blood vessels and aiding in toxin removal from deeper layers of the skin,” Nicole explained.

If all I had was 45 minutes to stop by Cosmo Contour, I would opt to use the Body Roller above all else. I’ve literally never experienced anything like it. I was able to adjust the RPM speeds as well as the infrared levels to create a totally custom experience that took care of my entire body from top to bottom. At times it was painful because it had to break up fascia, but other times, it was absolutely euphoric. Nicole cautioned that I might be sore the next day, which I was, but I also noticed that my inner thighs were noticeably “tighter” and that areas that were congested felt completely unblocked.

My Cool-Down Synopsis

With locations in both L.A. and Miami, Cosmo Contour deserves way more attention than it’s getting.

In the future, I hope to go beyond Cosmo Contour’s infrared offerings and try their private EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) suit training classes that stimulate 600+ muscles in your body in just 15 to 20 minutes. “People love this when they have a big event coming up where they want to get into amazing shape super fast,” Nicole told me.

They also offer cutting-edge body-sculpting techniques and a range of medical-grade devices like Venus Legacy, Bliss Laser, Emsculpt Neo, Morpheus8, and many more.

If you’re infra-ready to start 2024 off on the right foot, check out Cosmo Contour with code COSMO-CHALK for 50% off Body Sculpting or a free infrared sauna session when you purchase a $35 day pass to the Infrared Gym. Shape up or ship out!
