Meet Our May Guest Editor: Haylie Duff

This month is all about the most special woman in all our lives: our moms! And Haylie Duff is about to become very special to one tiny little bundle of love scheduled to arrive in our world any day now. What better Guest Editor to host this May than a new mom! In the past, we've featured mothers and mothering experts, but never a momma as fresh as Haylie. There's something very Chalkboardy about a new mom. Pregnancy and new born babies make us think about our health and the things we're eating and putting on our bodies more than ever before and we're happy to be a part of the conversation for women as they discover how to "live well" as a new mom.  This month, we're going to be chatting with Haylie about her healthy living habits, favorite wellness items, her adorable show, The Real Girl's Kitchen, and book of the same name, all about making life easier and more beautiful  in the kitchen and around the table.  Take a glimpse inside Haylie's recent baby shower above and get to know Haylie here below... Dear Chalkboard readers, I am so thrilled to be your May guest editor to celebrate Mother’s Day! Throughout my pregnancy I’ve craved healthy fresh foods and stayed active the entire time and Chalkboard is my favorite destination for everything from wellness, to beauty to style. I am very excited to share some of my favorite things with all of you. May is one of my favorite months for so many reasons! Delicious summer produce is starting to come into season, the sun sets later and al fresco dining is back! I also love that it’s the month to celebrate mothers! This time of year the farmer’s markets are all brimming with the most vibrant and flavorful fruits and vegetables. I love to wake up and make a fresh lemon arugula salad topped with a fried egg. The golden beets and the wild berries always call my name as I browse the rows of kale, swiss chard and bok choy. Whether I am roasting the dinosaur-looking romanesco cauliflower or braising french radishes, one thing is certain...I will always end up with the freshest, peak-of-the-season dishes. Which is really what he Real Girl’s Kitchen is all about. It’s about finding inspiration in the simple things. The farmer’s markets, the farm to table restaurants that we are fortunate enough to have access to and the ability to re- create what inspires us in our own homes. For the last year I have been filming the Real Girl’s Kitchen TV show for the Cooking Channel and it has been such an incredible gift. To turn my one-woman-blog into a cookbook was a dream come true but to then take the Real Girl’s Kitchen lifestyle to television and into your homes is truly magical. The show is very free format so we are never stuck in one place for too long. We’ve visited farms, markets, and even taken a trip to Soledad, Ca to make fresh goat cheese and visit an animal rescue/sanctuary. It turns out it’s not just happy cows that come from California...it’s goats too! In Season 2 we visit Miami for the South Beach Wine and Food Festival where I did my first big live cooking demo! My friends and loved ones will visit the show again and even my sweet fiancĂ© makes some appearances! The Real Girl’s Kitchen is fresh and genuine, young and fun, inspiring and aspirational – I am thrilled to share another season with y’all. Just like Chalkboard Mag, this month, we will dive into some beauty must haves, healthy habits to live by, and some reading material to open your heart and your mind. I am looking forward to these next few weeks! Love, Haylie
