How To Make Beauty Ice Cream: Goji, Ghee + Everything You Need

But really. This ain't your average berry ice cream. Crafted by the founders of Addictive Wellness, this superfood-loaded treat is extremely nutrient-dense and deeply beautifying. We're dishing out these upgraded ice cream recipes all summer; check out our energizng cookies and cream here. Here's the story behind the scoops from founcers, AnnaBlanca and Sage..

AnnaBlanca: It all started at one of my “female fridays,” which is an afternoon when a handful of girls, ladies and goddesses descend on our home and we tell each other stories and ideas that are too personal to splash on the pages of Facebook or Instagram. The sharing feels much warmer, and the advice more effective, when accompanied by real-life expressions instead of emojis. We guide, support, uplift and strengthen each other and - as a most welcome, glorious side-effect - our estrogen and oxytocin levels get recharged as well!

It is very beneficial for female hormone levels when women connect and talk. Meanwhile, when we chatter away to our male partners their testosterone levels take quite a dive. On this particular Friday, I was hellbent on getting Sage out the door as soon as possible. I almost succeeded when the words “superfood ice cream” suddenly appeared, lingered in the air and then all bets were off.

In the spirit of the day, we requested Sage, the wise blender chef, to make us a beauty ice cream and we all threw our individual wishes into his “modern-day magic cauldron,” a.k.a., the Vitamix!

One of us wished for “a smoother, wrinkle-free face,” another for “glowing, blemish-free skin” and the third for her “inner beauty to shine through.” I wish I came up with this lovely last wish, but I have to come clean, it wasn’t me....

In the end, Sage created something so incredible there was complete silence in the living room for a full five minutes(!) while we took the first bites - the ultimate sign of success!

Sage: I almost made it out the door! I was headed out to the beach for a surf and the timing was perfect for me to enjoy my favorite testosterone-building activity while AnnaBlanca was raising her estrogen and oxytocin with friends. But they caught me with the beauty ice cream request just as I was leaving and they were all smiling so sweetly, I couldn’t possibly say no!

When it comes to ice-cream making, for me, the only way to do it is to go all out. Keeping in mind the flavors of the herbs I was planning to use, I knew that a base of frozen organic berries was in order. With berries, it’s essential that they be organic, as non-organic berries are amongst the worst offenders when it comes to pesticide and herbicide residues. Then I added lucuma, sunflower lecithin* and hemp seeds, all of which help to give this ice cream a rich, creamy texture. (*Most sunflower lecithin product are processed with and contain residues of hexane, so I make sure to use a source that is cold-pressed and hexane-free. Chemical solvents have no business being in my ice cream!) Clean sunflower lecithin like this is a fantastic food for supporting a healthy nervous system and brain with high levels of phosphatidylcholine.

Goji berries are one of only two herbs known to promote secretion of human-growth hormone from the pituitary and pineal glands. Keeping healthy growth hormone levels is essential to aging gracefully and beautifully! The next herb, schizandra, is very multi-faceted. It is a great liver detoxifier and the health of the liver is very much reflected in the health of the skin. Schizandra is also traditionally said to protect the skin from the harmful effects of the elements such as the sun and the wind. Pearl powder contains compounds that support cell renewal, which makes it a fantastic herb for healing blemishes and cultivating beautiful, smooth, elastic skin. It also stimulates superoxide dismutase activity, which can help to prevent freckles and dark patches on the skin. Finally, tremella mushroom is one of the most highly regarded beautifying herbs in the Chinese system. Yang Guifei, one of the “four great beauties” of the Tang Dynasty, was considered one of the most beautiful women in Chinese history and attributed her radiant, ageless skin to tremella mushroom, which she used regularly.

I blended it up, served it up to the lovely ladies and headed out to the beach! Later that evening I returned home to AnnaBlanca, her oxytocin and estrogen recharged, as was my testosterone, and we had the most incredible, memorable, romantic evening...
