We know you don't want to do anything after your bra comes off at the end of the day, but if you've got a gua sha, this lymph-draining breast massage deserves a place in our regular routine.
The medical community has been promoting the preventative benefits of regular self-examinations for years, but this massage routine takes things further -- actually moving lymph through the body in a deeply beneficial way.
Giving yourself a gua sha breast massage is a powerfully beneficial self-care modality. If you're already all about DIY gua sha facials, keep moving south for some major benefits.
Gua sha tools have become incredibly popular for their ability to lift and tone the skin as well as drain stagnant lymph that can cause inflammation. We learned all about this ancient technique through the geniuses at Gemstone Yoni. To prep for this massage, you may use the gua sha you may already have or grab this longer, thinner stone to encourage detoxification, improve texture and boost overall vibrancy. Bonus: massaging our chest can also help relieve long-held tension stemming from the neck, arms and back. Here's what you need to know...
Breast Massage Basics
Start With The Neck. Breast massage is most effective when beginning with neighboring areas first. Start with the neck, massaging downward towards the heart.
Move Down The Sides. Next, massage the sides of the breasts and under the armpits. Stroke the breasts lightly, "like petting a cat." Move the top hand across the top of the breast toward the armpit, then move the bottom hand across the bottom of the breast in the opposite direction, then reverse. Repeat 10 times and end with a final stroke up into the armpit.
Practice Daily. For daily nourishment, perform this starter method every time you remove your bra.
Lymphatic Massage To Remove Toxins
It is important to pump and move in the specific direction as this massage mimics the way the lymph flows through the body. Pumping refers to applying light pressure and then releasing allowing it to return to its normal position (each press and release counts as one pump).
Lotion Up. Start by applying oil or lotion to your breast.
Underarms. Place your breast crystal or gua sha in your underarm. Slide the stone up to side of the outer breast area. 15 times
Nips. Place your breast crystal over your nipple and gently massage upward to top of breast. 15 times.
Outer Breast. Place your breast crystal on the outside of your breast and massage inward toward your chest wall 15 times.
Inner Breast. Place your breast crystal on the inner-side of your breast and pump at an angled upward motion 15 times.
Repeat. Repeat this same sequence on the other breast.
Chi Massage To Promote Firm Breasts
Make sure to apply a little bit of pressure so you are moving your actual breast tissue and not just the skin. This massage is best when done right before bed.
Warm Up. Start by warming up your chest to promote blood flow and circulation. Place one hand on each breast (left hand for the right breast and right hand for left breast) and move in a circular motion. Do this for about 1-2 minutes.
Move In Circles. Grab your gua sha crystal, put a couple of drops of oil on your breasts and move in a circular motion going counter-clockwise for your left breast and clockwise for your right breast for 3 minutes.
Repeat. Repeat this same sequence on the other breast.
