March 20th is the spring equinox and marks the start of the astrological New Year. It's also the rare year in which the Spring Equinox and a full moon fall on the same day (or night). Wellness mama and Philosophie founder Sophie Jaffe is talking to us about the equinox significance and how to bring in all that new energy...
As the Earth rotates around the Sun, the Spring Equinox (on March 20th) brings a peaceful equanimity to the entire Earth. It’s a day when all is in balance; a moment of equal light and darkness, giving us the ability to find balance in the hemispheres of our brain and the energies of our body. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s the welcome of the spring season - a time of awakening, rebirth and growth.
The Spring Equinox allows a moment to reflect on the balance that the universe created for us. Many times our own personal lives and our role in our global life seem imbalanced; however, the Equinoxes are those sacred moments in nature’s cycle where we can tune in and come back into harmony.
The shift of the season is full of meaning and potential. This is a beautiful time for setting new intentions, cleansing out aspects of your life and starting fresh. It’s a time for planting seeds, both figuratively and literally. When we are in perfect balance, we are aligned with the flow of our being and the energy of the Universe.
March 20th also means an astrological New Year as the zodiac begins again with the start of Aries season. We’ll all be buzzing with a sense of renewal and ignited with the adventurous, vibrant Aries spirit. Driven by competition and leadership, Aries season is all about taking the initiative toward new advances, turn up the confidence and embrace the fierce-loving, radiant being you are.
Here are ways you can tap into the energy of the Spring Equinox and Aries season for rebirth and reawakened spirit...
Take Your Workouts Outdoors
For months you’ve been trapped indoors, hiding away from the cold. It’s time to bring your yoga flow out to the grass at a local park or on the sandy beaches. Take morning walks around your neighborhood or go on a hike. No matter what your exercise routine looks like, you’ll feel so much more energized and refreshed by doing it under the sunlight.
Balance Your Life
While the Earth is in perfect balance it’s a great opportunity to examine the balance in your life. Are you receiving as much as you’re giving? Have you created boundaries? Look at all aspects of your life - career, finances, love, relationships, health, diet - and ask if each feels balanced. What can you do to create more balance in your life? This may look like saying “no” to people and projects that suck energy from you. This may look like bringing supporting more relationships that support you and lift you up.
Try A Cleanse
The shift in seasons is a great opportunity to go on a cleanse. Take the opportunity to boost your health and nutrition and offer space to detox and heal your body. You can join us at Philosophie where we’ll be hosting a Spring Group Cleanse starting on Monday, March 25th!
You can also cleanse the energy in your home - maybe this means creating a space in your room for meditations or dedication the entire season to a full detox. It’s a beautiful opportunity to generate positive energy in your surroundings. Make sure to use Palo Santo in cleansing the energy around you!
Start An Intentions Journal
The Spring Equinox is a potent time to re-evaluate your life and begin planting seeds for what you want to let in and release this season. Try the following journal prompts to get started:
What are you thankful for? How can you celebrate these joys in your life?
Where can you balance the masculine and feminine energies in your life?
Where can you embrace your shadows and honor your light as we move forward in this Equinox?
This season is a magical time of the year to celebrate all the vibrancy of life you have around you and show up to it. Each season brings energy with it to support you on your life journey. Embrace it!
