I Took Seed’s Probiotics For One Month – Here’s How My Gut Health Changed

Health and Wellness products are in constant supply in our office, so when one of us has rave reviews we all take note. Enter Seed's Daily Synbiotic, a probiotic and prebiotic backed by both science and impressive individualized support via a day-by-day game plan for optimal digestive health. Our teammate, Alyssa Mandel, gave them a try for 30 days—here was her experience...

Here’s the truth: No matter how clean I eat, how much I workout, or how consciously I hydrate and supplement, my belly can still get a little bulge. I’ve spent years trying to ease the physical (and emotional) discomfort of occasional bloating. Despite my abundance of resources as a wellness editor, I have never been able to find a solution that sticks.

After two days of taking Seed’s Daily Synbiotic, my skinny jeans seemed to fit better than ever. By week three of daily use, my unsolvable bloat problem was apparently gone.

Seed is a brand that’s gained well-earned buzz for its focus on science and sustainability. Their star product, the Daily Synbiotic, is a probiotic plus prebiotic developed by an impressive roster of scientists, doctors, innovators and entrepreneurs. It’s formulated for optimal digestive health, and has deep data to back up its innovative design.

Curious about the hype, and determined to get my gut health in check, I committed to taking the Daily Synbiotic every night for a month. In true Capricorn fashion, I kept my lifestyle rigidly consistent and tracked my experience with meticulous detail.

The results were impressive—and obvious. While I’ve taken probiotics in pretty much every form, I’ve never experienced such observable improvements, and definitely not this fast. Over the course of a month, I didn't experience bloat, constipation or loose stools...not once. My skin became more smooth and clear (dare I say, glowing?), and I felt dramatic shifts in my energy and mood.

The Problem In Our Gut

Here’s a fun fact:   you are only half human. The other 50% of your body is microbial—meaning, there is one microbial cell for every one of your human cells. and fifty percent of your body is microbial cells. That means tending to the tiny universe of microbes (38 trillion of them, to be specific) that lives in our bodies is key to maintaining overall health.

The ecosystem in our gut has an especially strong influence over our entire system, from gut immune and metabolic function to cardiovascular, skin and reproductive health. Probiotics are one way to aid our gut flora, but with so many options on the market and so little regulation in the industry, it can be challenging to find a reliable supplement.

According to Seed’s founder, Ara Katz, “Many of the products out there that claim to be probiotic, like some kombuchas or probiotic nuts, for example, don’t actually qualify as one. Just because something contains live microorganisms, doesn’t mean it satisfies the scientific definition of a probiotic—'live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host,' a definition authored by the United Nations World Health Organization Expert Panel chaired by our Chief Scientist, Dr. Gregor Reid, in 2002.”

In response, Seed strives to bring much needed precision, education and efficacy to the probiotics category.

I Tried Seed's Daily Synbiotic...Here's What Happened

While I felt supported from day one, it's not simply because I'm a wellness editor writing this piece. Before my subscription arrived, I already found several emails in my inbox from the Seed team. They offered a digestible dose of science and a day-by-day game plan for starting my new probiotic protocol. This is an experience every customer gets.

Finally, my green box showed up. Seed’s packaging caught my eye right away: The refillable glass jar is elegant AF, and came nestled in an ultra-sustainable mycelium tray grown from mushrooms. (Yes, mushrooms.) The first shipment also contained a small glass vial for travel that holds up to a week of capsules. Subsequent shipments will contain 30-day low-waste refills for the glass jar (in biodegradable packaging, of course).

I started incorporating the emerald green capsules into my nightly routine, taking them down with a full glass of water two hours after dinner. My body adjusted quickly and smoothly. After just a few days, I noticed I was already waking up without bloating or any other digestive issues.

After a week, I wrote this in my journal: I’ve been taking Seed every night and my stomach looks flat, I feel refreshed and amazing, regardless of what I’ve eaten the night before. My gut feels calm and my digestion is more regular than ever.

The benefits became more and more obvious over the course of a month. Without changing any other habits, I noticed that my skin had a new ‘alive’ look to it, and I woke up so energized that my black tea addiction became obsolete. I even noticed a significant uptick in my mood and stress tolerance.

The Science Behind Seed's Daily Synbiotic

According to Seed, the Daily Synbiotic is “the first probiotic to take a ‘microbe-systems approach’ with clinically-studied, strain-specific benefits beyond digestive health, including cardiovascular health, dermatological health, gut immune function, gut barrier integrity and micronutrient synthesis.”

Each dose (two small but mighty capsules) combines 24 clinically-studied, naturally-occurring probiotics strains that are not found in yogurt, most supplements or fermented foods.

While other probiotics incorporate strains from animal or soil, Seed only selects strains that are naturally occurring in the human body. The benefits are validated by 17+ strain-specific clinical studies and Seed’s own clinical research.

Most impressive is the way Seed keeps the probiotic strains alive and active. Bacteria are sensitive to light, temperature, and moisture, meaning most hardly survive the trip from manufacturer to store shelf, much less your digestive process. Seed puts its probiotics inside a vegan capsule and inside another prebiotic outer capsule, 2-in-1 nested capsule technology to ensure that bacteria stay alive and viable to your colon, where their work begins. Because of this, the Daily Synbiotic is shelf stable for 18 months and requires no refrigeration.

The Final Verdict

I was skeptical but hopeful when I started—and completely blown away by the end of my one-month trial. Seed is setting a gold standard for probiotics and completely revolutionizing modern gut health as we know it. Would I do it again? I’m already counting the days until my next shipment arrives.
