With all the emerging tech in facials, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the options. Especially when there's multiple versions of a similar treatment available. Microneedling is one of the latest being lauded for its anti-aging and skin plumping effects. It's been around med spas for a few years now so we've been excited to see more and more options being offered for a variety of price points and skin concerns.
But which one is right for you? We tapped four of the top experts in microneedling to help breakdown the variety of options, and considerations.
Micropenning with AnteAGE MD
Name:
Magdaline Granados, SkinSpirit
What I Offer:
AnteAGE MD is the most advanced growth factor system available today. SkinSpirit’s Micropenning with AnteAGE MD treatment delivers a high concentration of physiologically balanced stem cytokines, small proteins important in cell signaling (which are derived from human bone marrow) to the skin, which are combined with 2 recombinant growth factors. The watery serum quickly absorbs into the skin, restoring the skin’s ability to heal itself.
We cleanse, prep and a numb the skin prior to treatment - the treatment is comfortable and numbing subsides in a few hours. Some of our clients see results in as little as 4 days, with most people seeing noticeable results within 30 days.
What's Special About My Service:
AnteAge MD Stem/Growth Factors and Cytokines micropenning solutions are used for improving skin quality and to rejuvenate the skin faster than other treatments. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone looking to combat signs of aging, reduce inflammation and aid in the healing process. There are three AnteAge growth factor formulas that target specific results – Growth Factor Solution for tightening and smoothing, Brightening Solution for addressing hyperpigmentation and evening the skin tone, and Hair Solution for increasing hair growth on the scalp.
Microneedling with PRP
Name:
Natalie Aguilar, celebrity aesthetician and nurse with Dr. Kami Parsa in Beverly Hills
What I offer:
Microneedling with PRP. Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device containing fine needles to create tiny, controlled punctures (micro-injuries) in the skin's surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural wound-healing processes, leading to increased collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are essential proteins that help maintain the skin's structure and elasticity. When used in conjunction with one's own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), the effects of microneedling are enhanced, and the skin heals faster.
What’s special about my service:
Microneedling with PRP can be beneficial for a variety of individuals and skin concerns, but it may be best for those who tend to have allergies or want to maintain their skin or improve fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and even hair loss.
Some discomfort is expected. A technician will need to perform a medical blood draw, which involves a slight needle prick to fill a small test tube with blood. Although the facial skin is numbed, a slight sensation similar to a sunburn is often felt.
Also, quality microneedles are made of titanium, are sterile, and are relatively expensive. Aftermarket devices can be made of cheap metals like silver, which can cause deep irritation and inflammation similar to wearing silver earrings. Most of these aftermarket devices aren't always sterile, and the poor quality of the needles can scar the skin. It's important to note that the notion that deeper penetration yields better results is not true, as everyone's skin and needs are unique. This is a treatment I don't recommend attempting at home.
Microneedling with Plant-Based Stem Cells
Name:
Tess Adams, Take Care Venice and New York
What i offer:
Microneedling with plant-based stem cells. This has quickly become one of our most popular treatments both in LA and NYC. The pain level can range from a 3 to a 7 on a scale of 1-10 depending on the tolerance level. Even for those who can't tolerate a 7, we can still get great results over time.
What's special about my service:
This treatment is best for someone looking to prevent or reverse signs of aging as it promotes collagen and elastin production. It's also ideal for clients who have scarring from acne and clients who have hyperpigmentation or melisma. While we see immediate results, I recommend a series over time for the full potential. This treatment is not recommended for clients with active acne or hypersensitive skin.
Microneedling with Copper Peptide Cocktail
Name:
Molly Stanton, Sage Lane Skincare in Santa Monica
What I offer: I use a cocktail of human stem cell-derived growth factors, copper peptides, aloe vera, vitamin c, and green tea to increase cell turnover, repair damage, and boost collagen. Clients can now bring home a five day supply of this for home care following the treatment.
What's special about my service: I love combining microneedling with a topical carboxy treatment mask which dramatically reduces post treatment redness and accelerates the healing process. It lends for significantly less downtime for my busy clients. I apply the gel mask immediately after needling and then they can leave with it on so it can work its magic for 45 min to an hour (the longer you leave it the better). Personally I like to do a second carboxy c02 treatment the following day for an extra boost of hydration. Your skin feels like silk afterwards!
Can you pair with microcurrent? I absolutely love alternating microneedling with microcurrent because you are basically stimulating collagen in two totally different ways. I would recommend coming back in a week after the needling for a microcurrent facial to rehydrate the skin and then you get to really enjoy all the perks of being lifted and contoured along with your tight and bright newly healed skin post microneedling.
