Do you smoothie? Of course you do! Smoothies are one of the most ubiquitous wellness foods out there -- and with good reason. A smoothie can be almost anything we need it to be from day to day -- breakfast, a vitamin infusion, a mid-afternoon treat or our post-workout protein. One thing it can also be is expensive.
We love this green smoothie recipe from Kacie Carter, co-founder of honey hi, a unique cafe here in L.A. that wellness insiders adore. While honey hi's nutrition and sustainability values are as high as they come, they also have a keen eye for accessibility and this smoothie recipe is no exception.
If it's smoothies on the cheap you're looking for, Pressed Juicery also makes smoothies now, including a bottled Avocado Greens Smoothie for a little over six bucks with a blend of green veggies, spirulina, matcha and banana.
Bottled smoothies are a great solution on days when cleaning sand out of spinach and breaking out that blender just isn't in the cards. But for days when you're ready to whir, Kacie's smart and simple recipe is inexpensive and truly excellent!
Kacie Carter's Daily Green Smoothie
Ingredients:
3 sticks celery
handful parsley1-4 mint leaves
handful spinach (optional)
1-3 Tbsp coconut meat
1/2 green apple
1/4 avocado
1 scoop protein powder (I like Dr. Hyman Pegan Shake or Plant Fusion sprouted protein)
alt milk of choice
juice and zest of 1 lemon
This smoothie turns out not too sweet, incorporates a ton of vegetables and -- without any ice -- comes out room temperature the way I like! I would describe this smoothie as the intersection of a juice-smoothie-salad. I hope this humble glass of blended veggies brings you a small moment of nourishment and pleasure like it brought me.
