5 Ways To Embrace The Cozy Cardio Trend with Megan Roup

cozy cardio trend megan roup

Super-trainer Megan Roup of The Sculpt Society explains what the heck the cozy cardio trend is and how we can embrace it for ourselves. From staying in your PJ's for online yoga to habit stacking your beauty routine with a bit of movement, here's all you need to know...

What does “cozy cardio” mean: I love this trend because it is all about creating a supportive environment for working out and picking workouts that are gentle.

Rather than putting yourself through the grind on a tough day, Cozy Cardio involves preserving a calm and cozy environment and completing a workout without as much strain.

What it looks like for me lately: Being postpartum myself right now. I am all about embracing cozy cardio and making sure I feel like the environment and the exercises feel supportive and gentle. I am carving time out in the morning before both of my daughters wake up to get in some movement. I always stay in my sweatpants and sweatshirt for my cozy morning, make coffee and set up my area.

I recently bought a walking pad and I like to warm up that way for 5-10 minutes, habit stacking while wearing my LED face mask and listening to a podcast. After my walk I have been doing The Sculpt Society Postpartum pelvic floor and core recovery program that incorporates slow movement and breath work to strengthen your core and pelvic floor muscles.

Why it matters now: Creating a habit around movement is so important and for a lot of people it feels overwhelming to do daily or a couple times a week. I love that cozy cardio is a gentle way for those looking to incorporate a regular movement practice in a sustainable way.

Five ways to embrace the cozy cardio philosophy:

01 Stay in your pjs or anything you feel comfortable in. The cozier the better.
02 Create the vibe with lights, candles, essential oils or anything that feels comforting.
03 Set up your station! Have an area next to you with your water, coffee, phone or anything you might need.
04 Select your gentle movement. Mine is a slow and controlled routine on The Sculpt Society app for a gentle low impact workout done at a slower pace.
05 Habit stack as desired. LED light mask, wear a hair mask, listen to a podcast or audio book, etc.

Agent Nateur Founder Jena Covello on The Best Wellness Finds In Miami

jena covello in miami guide

Miami has always had a reputation for being health-conscious -- endless sunny days and miles of bikini-ready beaches have that an affect on a city! Despite it's long-standing rep, we've noticed a surge in cool wellness brands like Pressed Juicery popping up in and around Florida's coolest city and asked resident wellness lover, Jena Covello to fill us in.

Jena is the founder of wellness and beauty brand Agent Nateur and splits her time between Miami, Los Angeles, and just about every other stylish city in the world by the looks of her Instagram. If you're looking for new spots to visit in Miami, plus a little glamour, Jena has you covered below!

Name: Jena Covello of Agent Nateur

Miami in a nutshell lately—what's the vibe: Miami is my peaceful sanctuary. There’s definitely a cultural shift taking place that’s geared more towards wellness and health. Miami is always happy. The vibe is light and fun. The Design District is my fave.

Where to head for matcha/coffee: Ralph’s in Aventura mall, I also love Panther Coffee, Dreamer, and Cortadito Coffee House for the best cafe con leche.

miami dream condo

Fave wellness restaurants: I always find a healthy meal at all of these places: Milos, Makoto, Aba, Pura Vida, Mandolin, Joe’s Stone Crab, Mr Mandolin, Lido, Delicious Raw, Casa Tua… the fish is fresh and the meals are light.

Favorite beach: Setai, Surf Club, and Soho House to meet friends. Setai has the best homemade passion fruit drinks in Miami.

Beach tips: Your face will most likely burn with SPF 30 which is why I made holi (sun) with an spf of 50. Apply 50 to the face and don’t forget to reapply. I allow my legs to get sun exposure for vitamin D, but I always protect the upper and delicate parts of my body.

Go-to beach look: Hermès or Chanel flats, jean shorts, a CELINE button down shirt, The Attico bikini and Hotel Du Cap beach bag or vintage Hermès clear beach bag.

Where to stay for great design and wellness amenities: The Four Seasons Surf Club is insanely gorgeous. The pool is beautiful, and the food is great.

Amazing Miami practitioners: Oded Schneiderman for acupuncture and healing but he’s in Colorado half the time now; Jeffrey Prol at NSEV Healing & Acupuncture; Luisete Motta, Massage Therapist, specializing in craniosacral therapy— babies and adults, body work, but also an intuitive healer. Works on babies pre- and post tongue and lip tie release; Dr. Kirby Hotchner functional med doc; Dr. Bruce Eisenberg at Miami Beach Pediatrics (naturopath and pediatrician); Dr. Nelly Yefet (acupuncturist, homeopath); Dr. Theodore Herrmann holistic dentistry.

Best spas/wellness spas/mind-body experiences: The spa, massages and hammam at The Standard are incredible. It’s always one of the best massages of my life. The hot marble in the hammam is my favorite.jena covello home miami

Go-to studios/fitness spots: I work out with my L.A. trainer remotely when I am in Miami but my friends love working out with Ashli Katz.

For sustainable fashion and home shopping: Both Miami and Palm Beach have some of the best vintage furniture shopping ever. I found a lot of great things at Gillian Bryce and Sold Gallery. Also Stripe Vintage.

Best healthy-ish delivery: I always order Aba, Makoto and Pura Vida. There’s also a place called RICE Mediterranean that has good chicken kabobs that are light and healthy.

Can't miss if you're a tourist: Bal Harbour and the Design District, a walk on the beach near South of Fifth, Wynwood.

Authentic Miami finds/hotspots: Gee Beauty, the vintage furniture shopping on Biscayne near 60th Street, The Webster, The Faena, Nic Del Mar for bikinis in Coral Gables.

Inside tip as a local to those visiting: Don’t visit June through October. It’s scorching. January through March are pure bliss and absolutely heavenly.

The Ideal Way To Visit Zion National Park – Our Dream Itinerary with AutoCamp

auto camp zion review

autocamp offerAs you’ve probably noticed, AutoCamp has become a Chalkboard reader mainstay, thanks to its high-class amenities in high-demand locations like Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Zion, Cape Cod, Sequoia and just about every other desirable outdoor location coast to coast.

We’ve had so many of these locations on our bucket list for years now, but never had the time to navigate all the planning required to make these epic nature trips work. Making a resort reservation has just been so much easier! Until now…zion camp hotel

If you missed our review of Joshua Tree (or the epic giveaway I only dreamed of entering!), you should know that AutoCamp is the ultra-organized, super deluxe way to camp near some of the most glorious national parks in the U.S., and when it comes to “glorious national parks,” one southwest location tops the list.  Yes, we’re talking about AutoCamp Zion

Think of Zion National Park as the original Amangiri-lite experience. Zion is known for its once-in-a-lifetime scenic canyon hikes and has become the ultimate destination for Angelenos looking to say “I did a thing.” AutoCamp Zion wants to help the semi-adventurous to actually “do a thing” without literally doing a thing.

zion park hotel

The AutoCamp Zion Basecamp

Located right near Zion National Park, with a basecamp alongside the Virgin River, AutoCamp Zion celebrates the iconic red-rock landscape of one of Utah’s most notable attractions. You can spend the day exploring the Narrows, hiking Angel's Landing, or enjoying the scenic canyon drive. And when you’re ready to call it a day after taking in all of the sights, there is a glass of wine, modern accommodations, cool people, and a toasty fire waiting for you. Now, how many campers can say that?

All the things AutoCamp Zion has got going on...

+ Custom Airstream suites fully outfitted with personal grill and firepit area, plus A/C and heating for perfect temperature control.

+ Luxury linens and bath products in every Airstream.

+ Pool and Clubhouse with games, food and drink options, space to gather and lounge (Don’t miss happy hour!). There are even complimentary wellness classes on weekends.

+ Staff onsite to check you in and help with anything you need during your stay.

+ Indoor/Outdoor at its finest. Something to note about every single AutoCamp destination: You will never not feel like you’re a part of your natural surroundings (the double negatives make a positive!). AutoCamp is nature-first when it comes to how it complements or integrates into its habitat. From the design of their spaces to their planned activities to their curated dining menus, everything has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect the land it shares.zion camping advice

What To Do On Your AutoCamp Zion Trip

We’ve already complained about not wanting to plan anything, which is why we were super stoked to see the full lineup of enticing activities for future Zion-ers. AutoCamp has partnered with some of Zion’s most trusted and comprehensive resources to provide a full 360-degree experience for aspiring nature-seekers and activity-vultures alike.

Especially for those of us who are intimidated by things that involve hiking shoes and even helmets, knowing that we could just drop in, sign up, and be taken along some of the country’s most beautiful wonders gives great peace.

ZION STARGAZING TOUR | Living in a cosmopolitan city can make it really hard to wish upon a star (and we need wishes granted now more than ever!).

For two hours, astronomy guides will present a super cosmic experience taking place along the border of Zion National Park. From sunset straight into the evening, guests get to lounge in zero-gravity pods with hi-tech telescopes, so they can view the sky in pure, meditative comfort mode (obsessed).

ZION NARROWS | If you’ve researched Zion, you’ve likely heard about and have seen pictures of the Narrows. “But what if I’m not outdoorsy enough?”

With all essentials provided—even the hiking boots we mentioned above—you’ll discover everything there is to know about one of the world’s largest and most renowned slot canyons in a five-mile excursion. And you’ll have the social media photos to prove it.

MORNING YOGA | We totally get it if you just want to relax while in nature on vacation and keep up with your daily yoga practice (which is why we love this option).

Although morning yoga isn’t necessarily Zion-specific, there is some serious cache in doing a sun salutation outside against the backdrop of the mountain range. The best part? It’s complimentary. And if you choose to tackle some more rigorous activities throughout the rest of the day, you’ll have done a mindful savasana to move forward with a chill AF attitude.

autocamp zion review

AutoCamp Zion brilliantly provides a “little something something” for absolutely everyone. While the majority of their programming is consistent throughout the year, they constantly add in featured events that are even more unique, depending on when you visit. For example, we’ve just missed out on their New Moon Stargazing and Solar Eclipse Ride, but we take solace in knowing the moon will keep waxing and waning and that we’re entering a pretty wild eclipse season (which means more events at AutoCamp Zion).

In the meantime, our friends at AutoCamp have offered TCM readers an exclusive discount so you can book your next bucket list trip without abandon. Use code TCM20 for 20% off your next escape with AutoCamp.

the power five cookbook

Roasted Lion’s Mane Mushrooms with Whipped Tahini

Lion’s mane mushrooms have a long history of use in Asia for both culinary and medicinal purposes. They’re very “meaty” and remind me of sweetbreads. Whipped Tahini is a vegan cream sauce made from pureed sesame seeds. It’s a lovely way to add richness to mushrooms or virtually anything that could be made a little richer—and more delicious—with a little cream. Add garlic to it for a pungent note.

Serves 4
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:
1/2 pound lion’s mane mushrooms
2 to 4 tbsp rose harissa (see recipe below)
1/4 cup whipped tahini (see recipe below)
Extra-virgin olive oil (optional)
Cobanero chile flakes (optional)

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 425F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Coat the tops of the mushrooms with the rose harissa, and place on the sheet pan. Roast for 45 minutes or until the harissa is a dark red and the mushrooms are tender when poked with a skewer or paring knife. (If your mushrooms are small, they may cook faster.) You may need to turn the pan and mushrooms occasionally so they cook evenly.
2. Spread the tahini on a plate. Cut the mushrooms into 1/4-inch-thick slices, and serve with the tahini. If desired, drizzle the tahini with oil and sprinkle with chile flakes.

For the sauces:

Rose Harissa Recipe

Makes 1 Pint
Prep Time: 1 hour
Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients:
10 New Mexico or Anaheim chile peppers
4 guajillo chile peppers
5 sun-dried tomato halves in oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp caraway seeds
3 cloves garlic
2 tsp rose petals
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
Zest and juice of 1 lemon
3/4 cup olive oil
Salt

Directions:
1. Cut the tips off the chiles, and shake out any seeds. Place the chiles in a 4-quart pot, and cover with water. Bring to a boil, turn off the heat, and add the tomatoes to the pot. Let sit for at least 1 hour. Make sure the chiles are fully submerged by placing a piece of parchment paper on top, followed by a small plate or bowl to weigh the chiles down.
2. Meanwhile, toast the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and caraway seeds in a skillet over medium heat for 1 minute or until fragrant. Remove from the heat, and let cool. Then grind to a powder in a spice or coffee grinder.
3. When the chiles are fully rehydrated, drain, reserving the chiles, tomatoes, and 1 cup chile water. Remove stems and any remaining seeds from the chiles (wear rubber gloves).
4. Process the garlic, rose petals, paprika, toasted spices, and reserved tomatoes in a food processor until minced. Add the lemon zest and juice, and pulse to combine. Add the chiles, and process until a mostly smooth paste is formed. If it’s too dry, you can add 1 to 2 tbsp of the reserved chile water. Gradually add oil through the food chute, processing into a thick paste. Season with salt to taste.
5. Transfer to an airtight container, and let stand to allow flavors to combine. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Whipped Tahini Recipe

Makes About 2 Cups
Prep Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
4 cloves garlic
Juice of 1 lemon
1 cup tahini
Salt

Directions:
1. Process the garlic in a food processor until chopped. Add the lemon juice, and pulse to combine. Let stand for 15 minutes.
2. Drain the lemon juice from the garlic, and discard. Add then tahini to the garlic in the food processor, and pulse to combine. The tahini sauce will likely become very thick. With the food processor on, add 1 cup ice-cold water very slowly through the food chute until the mixture becomes airy.
3. Season with salt to taste. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

How To Cope With Uncertainty: 6 Ways To Navigate The Unknown with Daniel Mangena

How To Cope With Uncertainty

Research shows that the fear of uncertainty can take a worse toll on humans than the actual fear itself coming true. While life will always have a degree of uncertainty, best-selling author Daniel Mangena has developed helpful coping mechanisms that he shares in his work for when everything feels out of control.

It was his own life experience with trauma inspired him to develop the Beyond Intention Paradigm, a system that began as a lifeline when grappling with suicidal thoughts and became a path to lasting joy and purpose. Featured in Oprah Daily by Oprah herself, Daniel has also been named a Wall Street Journal “Master of Success.” His mission is to share these life-affirming tools through his highly-rated podcasts and his latest book Stepping Beyond Intention.

6 Essential Strategies To Cope With Uncertainty From Daniel Mangena

Daniel Mangena book

01 | Interrogate Fears When we're faced with uncertainty, it's common to experience a range of emotions, including fear, anxiety and stress. One way to cope with these emotions is to interrogate them, by taking ownership of our feelings and accepting that they are real. This means acknowledging and validating our emotions without judgment, and recognizing that it's okay to feel scared or uncertain. Once we've accepted our emotions, the next step is to put an action in place to control our reactions. To do this, we can ask ourselves why we're reacting a certain way and what it says about us.

02 | Make Health And Self-Care A Priority Taking care of your health is crucial for coping with uncertainty and stress. If you neglect your physical or emotional wellbeing, you may find yourself in an even worse place than before. One way to take care of yourself is to identify what self-care means for you and prioritize it. Self-care can take many different forms and will look different for everyone. It may involve things like getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising regularly, practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga, or spending time doing activities that you enjoy. When you take care of yourself, you are better equipped to handle the challenges that come your way.

03 | Make Time for Mindfulness that Works for You We know mindfulness can help us stay in the present moment and reduce anxiety about the future. However, we should stop fixating on what mindfulness is and instead focus on what it isn't. Mindfulness is not just an app to download or something that works the same way for everyone, despite what influencers may say. We should use the tools available to us, like certified mindfulness coaches, but stay true to our own paths—whether that's a 10-minute walk, a yoga class or journaling. Following a rigid mindfulness template can lead us astray from the truth.

04 | Practice Random Acts of Kindness Whether physical or verbal, the true power of random acts of kindness puts us in the action mode of gratitude. They may be small, but such good deeds carry their weight; for many of us, they return to our happy stories for many years to come. Random acts of kindness have the power to reconnect us to the world we so often leave behind.

05 | Seek Support Take stock of your support system and don’t be afraid to lean on them during difficult times—as they would to you! If you don’t have such a person, it’s imperative to contact support groups or mental health professionals.

06 | Be Open-minded and Flexible Practicing flexibility is an important strategy for coping with uncertainty. In times of change or upheaval, it's important to be willing to adapt to new circumstances and recognize that you may need to revise your plans or goals as new information becomes available.

8 Feng Shui Tips to Boost Your Mood and Optimize Your Space

nighttime energy rituals burning incense in bowl

They Say Our space mirrors our spirit: While breezy, carefree disarray might have been our vibe during the summer, fall calls for a cozify energetic reboot. We're sharing eight simple feng shui tips from master Dana Claudat, who recently rolled through our office with her magic touch. Trust us when we say this woman knows how to turn up the volume on creativity and zen!

Study up on these simple feng shui tips for a jump start into a fall season full of clean, clear, magnetic energy -- and plenty of rainbow throws, of course.

Feng shui has taught for thousands of years that your environment both reflects and affects your energy, your self-esteem, your priorities and your abundance on every level. When you use even the simplest of feng shui to deliberately change your environment, your space becomes a vision board of your life. But it’s even more powerful than a vision board on a piece of paper because you’ll actually live within all those dreams and wishes every day.

8 feng shui tips to optimize your mood + space

The more you are willing to connect to your space, the more amazing -- and surprising -- the benefits will be: more money, love, wellness, peace, creativity, focus, friendships and confidence. I’ve seen so many people expand or turn their lives around completely, all starting with the decision to add more intention and love into every day.

Below are feng shui tips to design more of your dreams into your space this season. Feel free to customize and improvise as you go; what feels right is always what’s right for you!

SET AN INTENTION FOR YOUR HOME + LIFE
Make your aim high enough and exciting enough that you feel thrilled when you think about it. For example: “A de-cluttered and clean house” isn’t quite as thrilling as “my dream art studio is set up in my sparkling new minimalist space.” Lots of people quit in the middle of positive life changes because the “realistic” goal is not inspiring enough, so be very bold!

CLEAR AWAY THE EXCESS STUFF
Clearing clutter is always a first step, but you’ll want to go beyond obvious clutter. If your dream space has a music studio, a meditation area, a big desk or anything else, you need to make room for it. Be willing to let go of extra furniture, extra accessories or anything else that is standing in the way. My very first client ten years ago subtracted nearly half the stuff from her home to create more focus and, almost instantly, her life and career opened up in ways she never dreamed possible. This is a big step!Decorate A Small Space tips

CHECK YOUR CORNERS
Corners in feng shui collect a lot of energy and have a lot of symbolic power (every corner has an impact upon your abundance in some symbolic way). Make sure none of your corners are stagnant feeling, super dark, dusty or anything less than fresh. As a quick fix to get the energy moving, clap your hands in the corners of every room. Now, get to cleaning and clearing and brightening them up!

HERBAL SPACE CLEARING IS AMAZING
Open your windows and use herbs to clear your home of stress or other heavy vibes that linger. Sage is a classic. If you like to smudge sage, keep it up and do it even more often. Rosemary is a super sweeper of negative energy and it’s easy to “smudge” like sage. Gather up a handful of fresh rosemary and tie it with kitchen twine or natural yarn into a “smudge stick.” Let it dry for a week or so before burning it.

You can also add some herbal tea bags to your baths – mint is thought to be prosperous, chamomile is relaxing, and my favorite, dried rose bud tea, is a restorative love potion.

MAGNETIZE YOUR FRONT DOOR
High energy is magnetic! You don’t need a red door to have great feng shui, but you do need a front door that feels and looks like you. A group of lush plants beside the door can be a gorgeous greeting. Herb or succulent wreaths can be ultra-abundant. Sweeping your steps or walkways regularly is amazing for shining energy. Be creative and light up your entranceway to welcome in the new!

RAINBOWS ARE POWERFUL
Add multi-colors anywhere you need a lift. Scarves, tapestries, pillows, rugs… this is easy and always stunning. Pastel colored rainbow spectrums are mentally focusing. Deeper colored rainbow spectrums have a more emotional impact.

GET GROUNDED EVERY DAY
Whether you walk barefoot on the grass, do some meditation in the sunshine or hike around trees, the more connected you are to the earth, the better all of life will flow. Adding more nature to your space can keep you more grounded. Crystals, stones, trees and handmade pottery are super grounding. When in doubt as to what a room needs, add a few plants!

INVENTORY YOUR ENERGY
What you focus on is what will grow, so spend a day tracking where and how you spend your time. It can be eye opening to see where your energy actually goes! De-clutter your schedule to have more time to focus on what you love.
