Cauliflower Apple Soup + A Negativity Meditation

This sweet and savory cauliflower apple soup is creamy yet clean, light yet filling, simple yet impressive -- in a word, perfect. The winter-ready recipe - and meditation pairing - below are part of this one-day detox plan from Cassandra Bodzak, author of Eat With Intention. Get into it below and find more recipes from Cassandra here... [olists num=1]

Patience is a virtue that I wasn’t born with. A few years ago, I was listening to a Marianne Williamson lecture (Marianne Williamson is a best-selling spiritual author and lecturer), and she talked about leaving our lives up to the same force that turns the acorn into an oak tree. It finally hit me how powerful patience is. Whenever I feel my patience running low, I think about the acorn and remind myself that my patience allows the space for the magic to happen — I can trust that if I’ve planted the seed, nature will make the flower blossom.

Mantra:

“My patience is precious.”

Kundalini Meditation for the Negative Mind
Sit in easy pose. Make a cup with your hands, your right hand cupped in your left hand, with both palms facing up.

Close your eyes so that they are only slightly open, and look down toward your cupped hands. Place this open cup at the level of your heart center and allow your elbows to relax at your sides.

Inhale deeply, taking a long, steady breath through the nose. Exhale in a focused stream through rounded lips, as if you were blowing a feather out of your hands. You will feel the breath go over your hands. Let any thought or desire that is negative or persistently distracting come into your mind as you breathe. Breathe the thought and feeling in, then exhale it out with the breath.

Continue for 11 minutes, gradually building to 31 minutes.

Close by inhaling completely and holding the breath out as you lock in your navel point. Concentrate on each vertebra of the spine until you can feel it all the way to the base, as if it is as stiff as a rod. Inhale powerfully, exhale completely and repeat the concentration. Repeat this final breath 3 to 5 times, then relax completely.

Radiance Juice Recipe + A Heart Meditation

Roald Dahl famously said, “If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” I couldn’t agree more. Beauty starts from within and permeates outward. Thinking thoughts that nourish your soul and eating foods that nourish your body is more effective than the most luxurious makeup money can buy. You can’t fake true radiance.

This juice is packed with nutrients that will get you glowing from the inside out! Pineapple juice promotes healthy skin and helps prevent acne, watercress is also great for your overall health with its high levels of vitamin C and cucumber has cooling and moisturizing properties.

Mantra

"My beauty radiates from within."

Radiant Heart MeditationIn this exercise, we are going to pull energy into our heart center and allow it to saturate every cell of our being, filling us with light and allowing our inner radiance to pour outward as it overflows.

Begin by sitting in easy pose and breathing long and deep. Close your eyes and focus on your heart center while using your hands to slowly and steadily pull the energy surrounding you into your heart. Your hands should stay at heart height and move from the sides of your body inward, as if you are catching a ball and bringing it into your heart. Feel the light in your heart expand and grow brighter with each motion. Continue for at least 3 minutes, gradually building up to 11 minutes.

Take a deep breath in and bring your hands into your heart, right palm on top of left. Feel the energy pulsing through your heart center and allow it to distribute throughout your entire being. Imagine it filling up each cell with its loving light energy. Exhale.

Wellness in 2018: What The Year Ahead Will Look Like

2018 promises to be a transformative year. Yes, there may be political turmoil, economic upheaval, and ecological issues aplenty, but - gosh darn it - there will also be mushroom lattes, brain-boosting supplements and bowls like this stunner from Honey Hi  here in L.A. Here are the best 2018 wellness trends coming down the pike...

The return of the supplement.
The year of the pill popper.

In the world of clean eating, especially with women, things have taken a very "food as medicine" turn over the last decade. This year, we predict a surge of interest back toward full force supplement regimens that has only just begun in 2017. From Chinese medicine to Ayurveda, supplement subscriptions to nootropics, here's what we're looking forward to more of this year...

Super Brain.
This is your brain on wellness.

When Dr. Amen first began scanning brains and reporting changes based on drugs, diet, therapy and other carefully measured adjustments decades ago, he was considered a bit of a nut - or at least an outlier - by the conventional medical community. Fast forward to today and Dr Amen's work with thousands of brain scans has produced some of the most important wellness findings of the 2000's so far. Not only that, Dr. Amen's findings in brain health have inspired some of the most interesting work we see happening with biohacking, including Dave Asprey's Bulletproof brand. Think the health of your brain and it's susceptibility to disease is completely out of your hands? Think again...

Anti-Aging + Longevity
This is the new 40. And the new 80.

Anti-aging isn't just about skincare anymore -- or jogging daily! Anti-aging today is all about "longevity": hacking our health into prime form well into our "old" age. With statistics pointing toward longer and longer lifespans, we're all learning to see old age in a new light. Expect mindsets, health protocols and technologies to change when it comes to approaching the golden years. Gen X and Boomers both are showing a renewed vigor in managing the health of aging better. Millenials have a heightened opportunity to manage their young years wisely and prevent some of the worst maladies of old age.

Breathwork + stress management
Stress ain't cute in 2018. Breathwork is our #1 tool to deal with it better.

We've discussed breathwork on the site and Facebook dozens of times and have hosted classes devoted to it's practice all year, but - as we've learned - it take a few years for this kind of unfamiliar practice to make it's way down into widespread acceptance. Look for an increase in public interest, more books and articles, and more endorsements by health authorities coming out in support of this vital practice helping us thrive more deeply in a culture of stress.

more flexitarianism
One size won't fit.
While many of us need programs to make fitness and diet goals work, the days of a 'one size fits all' plan across the wellness world is completely gone. Sure, many of us have gone rabid over the health benefits of fats, just as we accuse our mothers of doing with carbs in the 90's, but - generally speaking - across the board there is more room than ever before to find a wellness philosophy that works for you -- and abide by it, even when shopping or out at restaurants.

Super Immunity
Every. Damn. Day.

We were happy to see that mushrooms finally hit the Whole Food's trend report for the first time this year, a sure sign that holistic tools for immunity are entering the public consciousness. Generally speaking, our culture's "there's a pill for that" attitude, toward immunity especially, is shifting. Keeping our bodies vibrant and strong is a daily task that can't be neglected. And it turns out the keys to keeping ourselves strong are delicious parts of daily living we're happy to embrace.

There’s nothing mind-altering about these veggie spring rolls, but the rainbow of color gives these rolls a fabulous, tie-dyed color palette that’s as fun as it is delicious. The trick is to get vegetables as saturated in color as possible - so think bright purples, verdant greens, hot pinks, intense yellows. The vibrant ingredients will add a big impact to the finished salad rolls.

The Blessings Ritual We’re Using To Start The Year Right

This easy, but powerful practice from energy healer, Benson Simmonds, is launching us into the New Year with a sense of abundance, grounding and joy.

We met Benson through the holistic pros at Beverly Hills' Skin Worship and were blown away by his humble generosity and unique intuitive energy. We asked Benson to share a series of meaningful rituals with us to start the New Year. This gratitude slash manifestation ritual will have you looking outward in a new way that we hope you'll carry through the whole year...

As we embrace the new year, we are all searching for that magic elixir, that sure-fire technique, meditation or action that will guarantee our success in 2018. In my book Soular Power I refer to these tools as richuals: rituals to make you rich, materially, emotionally and spiritually.

A true ritual will not only ensure your success, but it will also change your mood or state at the same time. As we know, joy is the secret to success in all areas. Anything that can shift you out of a darker state into joy will help you attract more joy, love and abundance.

The ritual I'm suggesting you use to change your destiny in the new year is to start blessing people daily. Blessing others is so deceptively simple that most people tend to discount how miraculous the process of blessing people daily can be.

My challenge for you is simple. Take ten people you know or work with. Or you can include on your blessing list someone you don't know but pass in the street every day, or someone you've read about who is having some health or financial or "love" issue...

The Blessing Ritual.

Think of and/or visualize the person you plan to bless. Say,

"Blessings for joy, love, good health, abundance and success."

Or you can become more specific,

"Blessings that you love and believe in yourself again and that you believe in your dreams again and manifest your dreams or healing with miraculous speed."

The goal is to make them fun and have fun when you are sending the person their blessing!

+ Go through a daily ritual of sending a specific blessing or a general blessing to ten people on your blessing list. Send the blessings to your ten people, twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening, after dinner or before you go to bed. Do this for a series of ten days straight.

Call it your "10 for 10 challenge" where you bless 10 people twice daily for 10 days. Make a note of the day you start your bless-for-success campaign and see what powerful changes the divine brings, both to you and to the person you bless. In my experience, you will witness many miracles, small or large. And either way, you will start to feel great!

Why does sending blessings work? Because when you bless someone, for that moment you come out of yourself and share positive energy with someone else. Because blessing someone takes you out of your own fear, worry, doubt, etc. and it immediately shifts your mood and you feel better. You daily blessings don't need to take much time, but if your 10 blessings take 60 seconds or more, even better.

You want to have a better business meeting? Job interview? Date? Simply bless (silently) the person or people you are meeting with and then notice how much more fun you have.
