Working Out While Overwhelmed? Get Out of Your Head, Let Go of Results + Just Dance

Celebrity trainer Katia Pryce has trained Madonna, Molly Sims, Kelly Ripa and Mark Cuban, among others. Dropping the names of celeb clients might not matter much if they didn't have those bodies, but the proof is in the pudding, as they say!

In these overwhelming times, fitness routines can be the first healthy practice to go out the window. We talked with Katia about her perspective and this is what she shared with us below. It's no surprise the former dancer and Dancebody founder singled in on the power of dance to help us deal...

1% is 100% better than nothing. It’s too much pressure to have the “perfect” workout every single day. Try not to adhere to the “all or nothing” mentality and just do something.

Let go of results Most of my clients see more success with less pressure put on the result! Just be consistent and accountable. You can’t chase results, let results find you as you go!

Make dance your meditation. Dance is great because it’s almost meditative. You have to focus so much on what you’re doing to nail the moves to the beat that you can’t help but tune into what you’re doing -- and tune out of everything else.

Get a buddy. Studies show that you’re more likely to stick to a workout that you commit to with a friend. Having accountability is important and meeting up with a friend makes it feel more like “going out”, not “working out”.

Moving in a group... is powerful. It makes us feel less alone and releases the bonding hormone, oxytocin. Learning a dance with others is a rewarding experience on a physical, mental, and spiritual level!

We need those endorphins Dance and music hit the primal reward centers of our brain. We are hard-wired to get a mood boost from both dance and music in the form of endorphins and dopamine.

Find a workout you love If you feel that your workout is “fun” you’re more likely to stick with it. Dancing to good music elevates your mood and makes you forget how hard your body is actually working!
