Chocolate Maca Truffles with Coconut Butter + Rose Petals

These pretty, petal-topped chocolate maca truffles are practically irresistible -- and they might just make you feel the same.

Maca and cacao are both superfoods well known for their energizing, aphrodisiac and hormone-balancing qualities:

+ Maca root powder is loaded with amino acids, vitamins B, B1, B2, C, D and E, as well as fiber and essential fatty acids. Although the research is still limited, maca has traditionally been used to boost libido, boost stamina and stave off fatigue. Maca is also an adaptogen.

+ Cacao powder is an excellent source of protein, iron, magnesium, potassium and fiber. It also contains a kick of caffeine.

These beautiful chocolate truffles are remarkably easy to make, as long as you snag a silicone mold like this one and all the gorgeous ingredients ahead of time. (Don't worry, you can use these ingredients later in smoothies!) The recipe comes to us from the chocolate fiends and co-authors of Chocolate Every Day, Bennett Coffey and Ky Keenan -- and pretty much guarantee after-dessert activities....

Aphrodisiac Chocolate Maca Truffles

makes 12 truffles

INGREDIENTS:
¾ cup cacao powder

½ cup coconut oil
¼ cup coconut butter (or cacao butter)
¼ cup + 1 Tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp maca powder
2 Tbsp fresh pomegranate seeds (about half a pomegranate)
1 tsp dried rose petals (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

Melt coconut oil and coconut butter on low heat in a small saucepan until liquid. Remove from heat and add cacao powder, maple syrup and maca, and combine well.

In a silicone mold like this one (or an ice cube tray), sprinkle pomegranate seeds throughout. Set aside.

Pour chocolate into molds. Sprinkle with rose petals. Set in fridge for 30 minutes or freezer for 10 minutes.

Serve immediately or store in a covered container in the fridge for 3-6 days.
