5 Tips for Creating a Timelessly Elegant Holiday Home with Sarah West

There is an art to holiday decorating that feels festive without becoming fussy, elevated without slipping into extravagance. Few understand that balance better than Sarah West, founder of Sarah West Interiors, whose signature approach blends timeless design with lived-in warmth. Her spaces are known for feeling serene, curated, and deeply personal, even during the most decorative season of the year.

As Sarah puts it, creating a beautiful holiday home is not about filling every corner with seasonal pieces. It is about crafting an atmosphere. From thoughtful lighting to natural greenery to meaningful traditions, she believes the most elegant holiday style begins with intention.

Below, Sarah shares her trusted tips for creating a holiday home that feels refined, effortless, and evergreen year after year.

1. Neutral Palette
A timeless holiday look starts with a soft color foundation. Instead of relying solely on bright reds or bold greens, incorporate warm whites, soft metallics, taupes, and natural greens. These tones create a serene backdrop that allows your décor to evolve over the years without feeling dated. Layering textures like linen, velvet, and brushed metals, adds richness without overwhelming the space. Pairing these elements with warm, ambient lighting enhances the sense of elegance.

2. Natural Elements Paired With Timeless Traditions
Bringing the outdoors in is one of the most enduring ways to create holiday beauty. Always use a real tree or fresh garland, never faux so the natural scent and texture add authenticity to your décor. Fresh greenery, pinecones, olive branches, and winter berries soften interiors with their organic shapes and pair beautifully with beloved holiday traditions like stockings, evergreen garlands, and heirloom ornaments, adding warmth and nostalgia. This blend of natural textures and tradition creates a holiday style that feels timeless.

3. Use Lighting to Create a Warm Atmosphere
Lighting sets the emotional tone of a home during the holidays. Warm, layered lighting, from candles to twinkle lights to dimmed sconces, creates the soft glow that makes evenings feel magical. Instead of bright, overhead lighting, choose sources that cast a gentle light. This approach highlights architectural details and décor while making each room feel intimate and festive without excess.

4. Curate Decor With Intention
Instead of filling every surface with holiday items, choose pieces that tell a story or hold personal significance. A curated approach allows each element, an heirloom ornament, a handcrafted wreath, or a simple bowl of seasonal fruit. Editing is essential: keeping décor simple and purposeful ensures the home feels elegant rather than cluttered. I love collecting pieces over time and layering them year after year, and I always purchase a few new items to keep things feeling fresh and slightly different each season.

5. Scent Sets the Mood
Scent is an often overlooked but incredibly powerful way to create a welcoming holiday atmosphere. I’m drawn to warm, rich fragrances like tobacco and sandalwood for candles, they add depth and a sophisticated warmth to any room. The natural aroma of a real tree or fresh garland adds another layer of seasonal fragrance that instantly evokes holiday spirit. When hosting, simmering a stovetop cider not only tastes wonderful but fills the home with a comforting aroma. These subtle sensory details instantly make a space feel inviting and thoughtfully curated.

Three Cosmic Shifts That Will Shape the End of 2025

As we move into the final stretch of the year, the sky starts to give hints of change. Astrology often saves some of its most revealing moments for the end, and 2025 is no exception. The closing months bring three planetary shifts that mark true turning points—both collectively and within our own inner landscapes.

These aren’t the kind of transits that shout. They work more quietly, like a tide pulling us toward deeper truths. Think recalibration, clarification, a soft but certain course correction.

Below are the three cosmic movements influencing November and December 2025, and what they may mean for you.

In many ways, 2025 has been a year of endings, change and completion. So many of us have been in a process of becoming—stripping away who we were and slowly stepping into the self that is emerging.

If you feel like you’re in the void, the in-between, or the messy middle right now, don’t panic. You’re quietly being reoriented and recalibrated toward what will feel true and coherent for you in 2026 and beyond.

How the Final Transits of 2025 Prepare You for What’s Ahead

Jupiter Retrograde: A Shift in Fortune, Faith and Focus
Jupiter, the planet of expansion, growth and possibility, spends the end of the year retrograde. When Jupiter slows down, we’re asked to pause the outward push and look inward at our motivations, beliefs and long-term direction.

This is the moment when desire takes on a new shape.

Instead of striving toward bigger goals, Jupiter retrograde encourages recalibration. It helps us refine what we’re expanding toward, and ensure it feels meaningful rather than performative, particularly in relation to Cancerian themes of home, family, nurturance and comfort.

Rather than continuing to walk the path that reflected who we were, we’re called to realign with a path that reflects who we are becoming.

Questions to hold:

+ Where am I trying to mentally control my evolution? Can I surrender to the changes naturally unfolding?

+ What does true abundance and prosperity look and feel like for me, in this season, with the awareness I now carry?

+ What dreams or desires am I ready to park or close the loop on because they’re no longer true or relevant to who I’m becoming?

+ What does growth look like if it is nourishing, not depleting?

Jupiter retrograde reminds us that expansion doesn’t always mean more. Sometimes it means deeper. Sometimes it means choosing what is truly aligned and letting the rest fall away. This retrograde offers a chance to reflect and reassess the goals, dreams and desires we’ve been pinning our hopes on and to realign with what we truly value—the things that will offer the greatest sense of growth and evolution.

Saturn and Neptune Direct in Pisces: The Last Tide Before the Era Changes
One of the most significant moments of late 2025 is the final direct motion of Saturn and Neptune in Pisces. This is the last time both planets will move forward in this sign in our lifetime—a rare and meaningful closing chapter.

Saturn in Pisces has been teaching us the discipline of surrender, helping us build structure around intuition, spirituality and emotional truth. Neptune in Pisces has been dissolving illusions, softening edges, and revealing where we’ve been chasing dreams that were never quite anchored in reality.

When they both station direct for the final time, we’re likely to see something with new clarity that has felt nebulous up to this point.  We are likely to see, with precision, how we’re ready to anchor our dreams into reality, and the practical, tangible steps we can take to get there. This is about dreams coming to fruition. You’ve been learning some hard lessons these last two years, and now is the time to complete those loops and start reaping the rewards of what you’ve sown. The rewards depend on the discipline, maturity and structure you’ve built.

This is the last wave in a long cycle of healing, dissolving and reimagining. The final lesson in a 12-year Neptune storyline and a 2.5-year Saturn one. Many will feel this shift as a subtle but powerful exhale, a sense that something is coming to a close behind the scenes.

Expect themes around:

+ Boundaries that come from truth, not fear

+ Dreams taking tangible shape

+ Old illusions falling away with surprising ease

+ A deeper trust in intuition, creativity and inner guidance

This moment opens the door for what’s next—and prepares us for Saturn and Neptune’s entry into Aries in 2026, where everything becomes sharper and bolder.

Uranus Retrograde in Taurus: The Last Flip of the Script
Uranus, the planet of disruption, innovation and awakening, will be retrograde in Taurus for the rest of the year and into early 2026—for the last time in many of our lifetimes. This is the concluding chapter of a story that began when Uranus first entered Taurus back in 2018.

This transit has offered a collective review of what we value, what we’re building, and what we want to bring to life in a tangible, sustainable way. During this era, we’ve seen major shifts and revolutions in the way we work with food, resources, land, money, the economy and material security.

For the rest of the year, expect insights and illumination around what has been holding you back, particularly in relation to your values and finances, so you can slowly begin to reorient and realign to what will be sustainable for you.

While Uranus can bring sudden shifts, it’s equally likely that many will experience a quiet realisation that something needs to change. A pattern finally breaks. A belief updates. A truth becomes impossible to ignore.

Because this is Uranus’ final retrograde in Taurus, we get the culmination of a values evolution.

This is a beautiful moment to follow curiosity, question outdated narratives and allow yourself to expand into new territory. Uranus reminds us that liberation often begins with one simple insight—the kind that rearranges everything.

The transits offer us portals into our next evolution. They’re never inherently good or bad; they’re simply an opportunity to lean in and keep growing or to resist and stay where we are. They invite us into deeper alignment.

These final transits aren’t here to overwhelm, but to help us make sense of the year that has been and gently prepare for the chapter ahead. They’re an invitation to finally see the patterns that have been holding you back, and to calibrate to who you’re becoming. They’re setting the stage for big leaps in 2026.

Lean in.

In Conversation: The Truth About Going Grey (and Why It’s Not What You Think)

Grey hair has long carried a reputation for arriving with shock, stress, or surrender, the “overnight silver streak,” the first rogue strand at the temple, the cues we’re taught to battle or hide. But in reality, greying is far more complex, rooted not in panic but in biology, longevity, and how we care for ourselves over time.

To move beyond folklore and fear, we turned to someone rewriting the conversation entirely: Jay Small, a certified trichologist and celebrity hairstylist who co-founded Arey, the first functional haircare brand proven to slow and repigment greys. Known as “the wrinkle cream of haircare,” Arey approaches aging hair the same way modern skincare approaches aging skin — proactively, scientifically, and with respect for the process.

In this conversation, Jay separates myth from science, explains what’s really happening when pigment fades, and shares the daily choices that truly influence how and when we go grey. From stress and sun exposure to nutrition and follicle health, this is the real story behind silver strands without the scare tactics.

The Truth About Going Grey

One of the biggest myths is that stress turns hair grey overnight. What does the science actually show about stress and pigment loss? One of the biggest myths is that stress can turn hair grey overnight. The reality is more nuanced. While there aren’t human studies definitively proving that emotional stress directly causes greying, research in mice — and plenty of anecdotal evidence — suggests that stress can accelerate the process.

Here’s what we know: each hair follicle contains a “factory” that produces melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color. Under stress, the body produces higher levels of cortisol, the hormone that helps us stay alert. Elevated cortisol can disrupt the hair growth cycle and slow pigment production. Over time — especially with chronic stress — this disruption may contribute to greying.

It’s also important to remember that we’re exposed daily to oxidative stressors from our environment, like UV rays, pollution, and even chemicals in certain hair products and foods. These stressors generate free radicals, which can damage the melanin-producing cells in hair follicles.

Ultimately, there are two types of stress that influence hair health and pigment: intrinsic stress (things like psychological strain and diet) and extrinsic stress (factors like sun exposure, pollution, and chemicals). Both play a role in pigment loss, but the process is gradual — not an overnight transformation.

Why do some people start greying in their 20s while others hold off until their 60s — is it all genetics, or do lifestyle and environment play a role?  Greying isn’t determined by one factor alone. Beyond the IRF4 gene — the only gene so far directly linked to greying — lifestyle and environment also play important roles alongside biological aging.

Habits like smoking, high stress, poor diet, and frequent UV exposure can all accelerate greying. On the other hand, people who manage stress, eat nutrient-rich diets, and make healthy lifestyle choices may hold on to their natural color for longer.

Ethnicity is another factor. Hair thickness, density, shape, and natural color vary across populations, and researchers have found that these differences influence when greying begins — as well as what’s considered “premature” in different groups.

In short: genetics set the baseline, but lifestyle, environment, and even ethnicity all shape when and how quickly greying shows up.

What’s one thing people unknowingly do every day that accelerates greying? One of the most common — and overlooked — accelerators of greying is sun exposure. We’ve learned to prioritize SPF for our face, neck, and body, but most people forget about protecting their scalp. Areas like the hairline and natural part are exposed to UV rays every day, and that damage adds up.

As a hairstylist and trichologist, I’ve seen this firsthand over 20 years of working with clients. The spots where people tend to notice their very first greys — the temples, hairline, and part — are often the areas that get the most sun. In some cases, I’ve even observed more greys on the side of the head exposed to the sun while driving compared to the shaded side.

Protecting the scalp and hair from UV is just as important as protecting the skin if you want to slow down greying.

Another common belief is that dyeing your hair makes greying worse. What’s the truth about coloring and the health of the follicle? A lot of people wonder if dyeing their hair makes greying worse. The truth is, it depends on how the color is applied.

When you’re using foils or gloss to tone or enhance vibrancy, the dye mainly coats the hair strands and has little impact on the scalp or follicles. But root touch-ups are different. Applying dye directly to the scalp — right where grey hairs grow in — can expose the follicles to oxidative stress from both the dye and the developer.

Here’s why: hair dye works by using a developer to open the cuticle and allow color molecules inside the strand. But if that chemical process comes in direct contact with the scalp, the skin reacts to defend itself. This triggers free radicals, which, if not neutralized, can disrupt the follicle’s activity. Over time, this may contribute to signs of accelerated hair aging, including greying, thinning, and changes in texture.

Coloring your hair won’t suddenly cause greys to appear — but repeated root-to-scalp applications can add stress to the follicle and potentially speed up the process.

What daily choices (diet, supplements, stress management, scalp care) have the biggest impact on delaying greys or keeping hair healthy as it ages? If I had to rank daily choices, diet and supplements come first when it comes to preserving pigment and delaying greys. Hair is considered “non-essential” by the body — so when nutrients are limited, they’re allocated to vital organs first. Over time, deficiencies can show up in our hair as changes in pigment, texture, and density. Having a nutrient-rich diet and supplement routine provides the fuel for healthy cellular activity, which supports both growth and color.

Stress management is next. Unlike nutrition, which can be addressed with consistent habits, stress is harder to measure and control. Elevated stress impacts the hair growth cycle and can accelerate pigment loss. In my experience, both personally and with clients, ongoing stress management has a profound effect on hair health — but it’s also one of the hardest areas to maintain consistently.

Finally, scalp care helps create the right environment for healthy hair as we age. Just as we care for our skin with cleansers, serums, and moisturizers, the scalp benefits from exfoliation, hydration, and targeted treatments that keep follicles functioning at their best.

Together — nutrition, supplements, stress management, and scalp care — create a holistic approach to delaying greys and keeping hair vibrant for longer.

You call Arey “the wrinkle cream of haircare.” What does that mean to you, and why is it such an important reframe in how we talk about hair aging? For so much of my career, haircare was reactive. Clients would come to me with dry hair, broken hair, or greys — and the question was always, “What can I do to fix this now?” But if you look at how skincare has evolved over the last 20 years, the biggest shift has been toward prevention. We now know that preserving skin health is more impactful than waiting for damage to happen and trying to undo it with quick fixes.

That’s why we call Arey “the wrinkle cream of haircare.” Hair ages just like skin. Subtle signs like dullness, loss of shine, or those very first greys are like fine lines — early indicators that it’s time to protect and preserve. If we wait until the hair is fully white, it’s much harder to change.

Arey was born from a conversation with my co-founder Allison about the long-term commitment and chemicals that come with covering just a few greys. Instead, we wanted to create the first proactive solution to support pigment and keep hair healthier for longer.

I often say: hair dye is like Botox — it’s a quick fix, but it works best when supported by a consistent routine. Arey is the daily care — the sunscreen, the wrinkle cream — that helps you stay ahead of aging hair so you can feel confident through every stage.

Arey’s The System is the first clinically proven duo to slow and repigment greys. Can you walk us through how it actually works? Arey’s The System is the first clinically proven duo to slow and even repigment greys — and it works by supporting the hair follicle from both the inside and the outside.

On the inside, our daily supplement, Not Today, Grey, delivers a blend of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that fuel healthy cellular activity and pigment production. It contains the Arey® Compound — ingredients like copper, PABA, black sesame extract, and Fo-Ti — which are all linked to melanin production, the pigment that gives hair its color. Think of it as giving your follicles the nutritional “fuel” they need to keep producing color.

On the outside, our patented serum, To The Root®, uses our proprietary Mela-9® Complex. This combines antioxidants (to fight oxidative stress and support absorption) with a clinically effective peptide (PT-20) that activates the melanin stem cells in the follicle. In other words, it helps “turn on” pigment production at the source.

The results aren’t just theoretical. In a 173-person double-blind, placebo-controlled study, after six months of use, 88% of people using The System had less grey hair growth. On average, the active group saw a 13% decrease in grey hair, while the placebo group actually saw a 10% increase. Participants also reported thicker, fuller, and softer hair — three times more than the placebo group.

The takeaway: The System helps slow the process of greying and gives follicles the tools to repigment — while also improving overall hair health.

What rituals do you personally swear by to keep your own hair healthy as you age? For me, keeping my hair healthy as I age is less about quick fixes and more about daily rituals that support both body and mind. I’ve found that diet, exercise, and stress management are the foundation. Movement has always been central to my routine — I lift weights, row, or sometimes just walk around the block. Each form of movement has its own benefit, but what matters most is consistency. It keeps me balanced, not only physically but mentally.

Stress is another big one. I naturally lean toward stress and anxiety, and for years I felt overwhelmed trying to “avoid” it. What I’ve learned is that I can’t control how much stress life throws at me, but I can control how I let it affect me. That mindset shift has been one of the most powerful parts of getting older. Instead of dwelling on what I could have done differently, I try to slow down, be kinder to myself and others, and focus on being prepared for whatever comes next. That attitude has made a huge difference in my overall wellbeing — and yes, it shows up in my hair health too.

On the haircare side, I’m not just Arey’s co-founder — I’m also a customer. I take Not Today, Grey every single day; it’s the only supplement I use. It delivers B vitamins, minerals like copper and selenium, and antioxidants that not only support hair pigment but also my overall health. After showering with Wash and Smooth, I apply To The Root® serum to my scalp and my beard. For my beard, it’s been a game changer in keeping pigment and helping with frizz and unruliness.

But the ritual I love most comes at night. After putting my phone in sleep mode until my alarm goes off at 6:22am the next morning (also my birthday), I’ll spend a few minutes brushing my scalp with our scalp brush, moving back and forth and side to side. Then I apply To The Root® serum and massage it in for a minute or two. It’s the most relaxing part of my day — equal parts self-care and haircare. It helps me wind down, sets the tone for better sleep, and gives me the peace of mind that I’m doing something proactive for my hair as it ages.

What I’ve learned is that the ritual itself is just as important as the result. These small, daily choices add up over time, not just in keeping my hair healthy, but in helping me live with more calm, focus, and confidence as I get older.

Your 15 Minute “Joy of Missing Out” Break According to a Psychologist

If the group chats, calendar invites, and constant notifications have you fantasizing about disappearing for… just a minute, you’re not alone. Apparently, we’re all so overstimulated that many people would literally choose a mild electric shock over sitting quietly with their own thoughts. (Yes, really. Science confirmed it.)

That’s exactly what Robert J. Coplan, PhD wants to reframe. A psychologist, researcher, and chancellor’s professor who has spent over thirty years studying the science of solitude, Dr. Coplan is on a mission to help us rethink the power of being alone. His new book, The Joy of Solitude: How to Reconnect with Yourself in an Overconnected World, explores why a few quiet minutes might be one of the most restorative tools we have.

So what does fifteen minutes of intentional alone time actually do for your mental health? And how can we make solitude feel like a reward instead of something to avoid? Here, Dr. Coplan shares his perspective.

The 15-Minute Solitude Mental Health Reset

A lot of people just don't like spending time alone. How much so? In a series of studies, psychology researchers instructed college students to sit ‘alone with their thoughts’ in a small room with the door closed for fifteen minutes. In one variation of this experiment, students were also given the option of pressing a button in the room to receive a painful electric shock. Amazingly, the majority of students found this experience of solitude so boring and aversive that they chose instead to fill the time by self-administering painful electric shocks!

But here’s the problem. Although many people dislike solitude, there is growing evidence to suggest that spending time alone actually promotes many benefits for our mental health and well-being. These include a respite from social stress, the chance to restore and recharge, a soothing balm to take the edge off intense emotions, the opportunity for reflection and self-discovery, and a kickstart to problem-solving and creativity.

Fortunately, there appear to be some easy ways to help get these benefits of solitude. First, it turns out that the simple instruction to “think happy thoughts” during 15-minutes of sitting alone leads to a more positive experience and better mood afterwards. Similar results are found if people read a short paragraph on the benefits of solitude ahead of time (as you just did – so you are ready to go!). The idea here is to flip the switch on how we view solitude. It is often construed as a punishment, such as a time-out for unruly toddlers or solitary confinement for incarcerated offenders. Instead, try to reframe solitude as a reward – the gift of me time.

Sitting alone with your thoughts is also not the only way to reap benefits from solitude. Instead, what matters most is not what we do per se, but that we find our chosen solitary activity meaningful, engaging, and enjoyable. So, go for a walk outside, listen to music, read a book, knit, or whatever works best for you personally. Ideally, consider turning off your phone, or at least silence your alerts so that notifications are not constantly interfering with your alone time. If you solitary activity involves your phone, resist the temptation to scroll social media, text, or video-chat with people (I call this “social-washing” your solitude). Instead of FOMO, give yourself the pleasure of JOMO (Joy of Missing Out).

In the end, we must all find balance between solitude and socializing. People need social connection – but they also need solitude. Keep a diary of your time alone and with others over the course of a week and track your mood. Just like Goldilocks, who wanted porridge that was not too hot, not too cold, but just right for her, we all need our own just right balance of solitude and social connection to optimize our personal well-being.

Finally, for those that already love and value solitude, don’t be afraid to ask for some alone time when you feel like you need it. We shouldn’t have to lie to our friends and make up an excuse for not going out on a Friday night when what we really want to do is put on fuzzy socks and cozy up with a book on the couch for a few hours. And for those who think pushing a button to get an electric shock is a better option than sitting alone with your thoughts, start small, and gradually build up your solitude muscles over time. You might be surprised at what solitude has to offer.

In Conversation: Why Women Are 2X More Likely to Develop Alzheimer’s and What We Can Do About It

Women’s brain health is having a long-overdue moment. For Emma Heming Willis and Helen Christoni, it isn’t just a wellness trend, it’s personal. Together, they founded Make Time Wellness, a brand built to help women understand, protect, and prioritize the organ that connects everything else.

For Emma, the mission grew from her experience as a wife, mother, and advocate navigating the realities of dementia. For Helen, it began after losing loved ones to the disease and realizing how little support exists for women’s cognitive well-being. Together, they are building a movement that reframes brain health as the foundation of beauty, balance, and longevity. Because when women make time for their brains, everything else begins to thrive.

In Conversation: Emma Heming Willis and K. Helen Christoni on the future of women’s brain health

Emma, you’ve said the words “brain health” completely changed your approach to wellness. Can you take us back to that moment—what shifted for you when you first learned how connected the brain is to every part of your wellbeing? For someone who was already pretty up to speed on wellness, learning about brain health was like someone turning the lights on. I realized that when I took care of my brain, my whole body benefited. I’d always thought of health as something physical, but I hadn’t realized how much the brain drives everything from our mood, focus, sleep, hormones, and even how our bodies age. Once I understood that connection, I began looking at my own health and wellness through the lens of brain health.

Helen, there’s so much emerging research on lifestyle and prevention. What habits have the biggest long-term payoff for the brain? The science is exciting because it shows how much control we have in our health journey. Regular movement, quality sleep, managing stress, meaningful connections, and nourishing your body with the right nutrients all have a direct impact on brain health. I often say, “Your daily habits are like deposits into your brain’s long-term savings account; they don’t have to be massive, but if you are consistent, it will pay off.” What you do today, whether it’s eating more omega-3s, staying socially connected, or prioritizing recovery pays off decades later in cognitive resilience.

Both — How can women begin to notice the early signs that their brain health might be out of balance? Emma: For me, it started with brain fog that was dismissed by my doctor. After being told it would pass and it didn’t, I took matters into my own hands and found a brain health specialist. If you’re feeling foggy, forgetful, or emotionally drained more often than usual, that’s your brain asking for attention. It’s not something to brush off.

Helen: Exactly. The brain lets you know when it's tired. It is so important that we listen and prioritize our energy levels, focus, sleep patterns, and stress tolerance. Women are so used to grind culture that we too often normalize feeling off. The goal is to recognize those signals early and respond by making time for ourselves rather than guilt or judgment.

You’ve both lived through incredibly personal stories of loss and resilience. How did those experiences shape the way you built Make Time Wellness—from the tone to the mission to the community you’re creating? Emma: My experience as a caregiver has reinforced the importance of making time for our well-being because it’s so easy to neglect when we’re caring for others. I wanted Make Time to be a reminder and really a movement that we deserve to prioritize ourselves. That isn’t selfish; it’s self-preserving.

Helen: And we wanted that message to feel real, not aspirational. Life is full, so we created products and a community that make caring for your brain, body, and beauty easy for women, not difficult. Everything we do is rooted in empathy, evidence, and empowerment no matter what season you are in.

The brand highlights “clinically studied ingredients” and “results you can feel.” What does that mean in practice? Can you share examples of key ingredients and what makes them truly effective for women? Helen: We’re very intentional about our formulation. We use Cognizin® Citicoline, which is backed by clinical research supporting focus, memory, and mental clarity. We also include ingredients that address women’s unique needs, like curcumin, a women's multi, MCT oil and Green Tea, so women can have the “results they can feel,” meaning these nutrients are at efficacious at levels where women feel the difference.

Did you work with neuroscientists or formulation experts in developing your products? What did that collaboration look like behind the scenes? Helen: We collaborated with food scientists and leading health experts to ensure each product was both evidence-based and met a woman's needs. It was a long, thoughtful process, but it ensures we can stand behind every claim we make.

Studies show that women make up two-thirds of Alzheimer’s patients, yet the conversation around brain health rarely centers on women. Why do you think it’s been overlooked for so long? Emma: Historically, women’s health has been under-researched across the board. When it comes to the brain, much of the early Alzheimer’s research was based on men, so women’s risk factors weren’t fully considered. That’s changing now, but it’s exactly why Make Time exists: to put women’s brains at the center of the conversation.

Helen: Most women do not know that they are at such high risk for Alzheimer's! 1 in 5 women will be diagnosed with Alzheimer's here in the US, compared to 1 in 10 men. That statistic is just staggering, and at Make Time, we are committed to this brain health conversation, and we hope to change that statistic.

How do hormonal shifts like pregnancy, menopause, and chronic stress play into women’s cognitive health—and how early should we really be paying attention? Helen: Hormones play a major role in how the brain functions. Estrogen, for example, supports memory, mood, and neuroprotection. When it fluctuates during pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause, it can affect cognition. The takeaway is to start early. You don’t wait until perimenopause to care for your brain; you build those habits in your 20s, 30s, and 40s to protect yourself later.

Emma:
As I always say, prevention is better than cure. Every small habit, like managing stress, moving your body, and fueling your brain, creates a foundation for long-term health.

Nutrition plays a huge role in cognitive health. What foods or nutrients do you personally prioritize for brain support? Emma: I try to eat with my brain in mind—lots of colorful vegetables, healthy fats, and omega-3s. I love blueberries and avocado, and I’m mindful of staying hydrated. It’s about progress, not perfection.

Helen:
I am pescatarian, so I eat a ton of fish, and also add in nuts, seeds, and whole grains. But I am always supplementing, you can always find me with our Brain Health & Beauty gummies in my purse. I take them daily. Nutrition & supplements are both very powerful levers we have for brain health.

Finally, if you could each leave women with one piece of advice this Alzheimer’s Awareness Month—one simple way to make time for their brains—what would it be? Emma: Start small. Don’t try to implement everything at once. Take five minutes today for something that supports your brain health, whether it’s a walk, a breath, or a glass of water. It all adds up.

Helen:
Remember to Make Time for Brain Health! Our brains are our most important asset. Alzheimer's can be largely preventable. Share this conversation – together we can change the 1 in 5 statistic!!
