The Seed Cracker: 2 Versions Of The Best High-Protein Cracker Ever

We've gone gluten-free and have discovered the secret key to staying that way: these sunflower and flax seed cracker recipes. The perfect on-the-go snack and the ideal pair to luscious dips and spreads like this broccomole and neon beet hummus, we always make sure to have a bag on hand. Unlike typical crackers, these are loaded with nutrients. Rich in vegan protein and healthy fats, they are also an excellent source of immune-boosting and hormone-stimulating zinc and blood-sugar-balancing manganese and copper. Another bonus: They're free of the typical fillers, inflammatory wheat and toxic oils that are found in conventional crackers. In fact, these crackers are so clean and packed with the good stuff, they are an integral part of the Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) diet. We discovered these recipes in the The Heal Your Gut Cookbook, which is a resource for repairing the GI tract through the GAPS diet. GAPS refers to physiological and psychological disorders - including ADD/ADHD, autism, addictions, depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder - that stem from, or are exacerbated by, leaky gut and dysbiosis. The diet is designed to restore the balance between beneficial and pathogenic intestinal bacteria in order to seal the gut and remedy its related issues. If you're looking to take clean eating to the next level, try your hand at these two cracker recipes by the authors, Hilary Boynton and Mary Brackett... I discovered flax crackers one day in the grocery store, and after spending $40 on crackers, in various flavors, that were all gone in about 2 days, I decided I could knock these suckers off. You can get creative and add a blend of Mexican spices, Italian seasonings, or even cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice for sweet crackers. [olists num=1] [olists num=2]

Class In Session: An Inspired Ride With Pixie Acia Of SoulCycle

SoulCycle is like a concert or dance party on a bike, so it's only natural that we consider their instructors rockstars in and of themselves! This month, we're celebrating all things SoulCycle as our Guest Editors, SoulCycle founders Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice take the TCM wheel. We're shining a spotlight on the superstar teachers that turn each 45-minute class into a can't-miss experience. First up is our girl Pixie Acia, one of the top instructors on the West Coast. This Senior Instructor is about way more than getting a good sweat in: she turns each sold-out ride into a practice in self-realization. Down-to-earth and authentic to the core, her rides are no-nonsense, kick-ass and electrically eclectic. Her latest playlists include the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Eminim, Lauryn Hill, Depeche Mode, and Tupac. What we love most about Pixie is how she's inclusive, not exclusive. Whether you're a Soul newbie or a seasoned vet, everyone is treated as an integral part of the tribe. Here's how Pixie inspires riders across L.A. to live their lives with a little more soul, in and out of the studio:

The Pressed Juicery Margarita: Mint, Grapefruit + Pink Salt

It's inevitable. If you've got one of those fridges always stocked with bottles of Pressed Juicery, it's only a matter of time before the idea of a fresh-pressed cocktail comes to mind. Juice 'til dinner, juice cocktails 'til late night snack? Not the best concept for a cleanse perhaps, but if you're going to shake up a few cocktails this summer, why not stock the bar with fresh, clean ingredients like these? Last month, for Cinco de Mayo, we whipped up this green jalapeno juice margarita. As we played with the recipe, this grapefruit version came to life too, and it was too good not to share. Note the fresh herbs, pink salt rim, and juice ice cubes! The ice cubes couldn't be easier and make for an impressive looking drink. We love the giant square ice molds for this, fill to the brim with juice, freeze and pour drinks right over the top. Cheers!

How To Eat Like Beyoncé: (Vegan) Cake By The Pound

What Would Beyonce Do? Apparently, eat her veggies. The internet's been buzzing about Beyoncé's trainer Marco Borges and his 22-Days Vegan Challenge since Mr. and Mrs. Carter embarked upon the completely  plant-based program for three-plus weeks (with rave reviews by both). Built on the concept that it takes 21 days to change a habit, the premise is pretty simple: try eating a healthy vegan diet for 22 days and just see how you feel. We're all for more plants on your plate and less refined gunk. Bwhat we love most about Borges' challenge is that last part about "seeing how you feel." It's not about making a decision to change your ways permanently for ever and ever, and it's definitely not about following a strict prescription. The 22-Days Challenge is about the thing we are most passionate about here at The Chalkboard: discovery. Trying something new, forming a healthy relationship with the food you eat, and taking stock in how it actually makes you feel. Want to try the program out for yourself? Click here to get all the important deets - and be sure to pick up a copy of Borges' book, The 22-Day Revolution (which has a foreward written by Beyonce herself. NBD). In the meantime, here are our top five #flawless takeaways from the program...because if it's good enough for Queen Bey, it's definitely good enough for us.

How To Build A Meal In A Bowl: Fridge-To-Face In 7 Steps

There are days for Ottolenghi tarts and gluten-free baking experiments and then there are the other 364 in which we're building bowls and smoothies based on just one equation: what's in the fridge. Elise Museles from Our Body Book is on the exact same page, and is dishing out perfect tips on building a meal in a bowl quicker and easier than ever... Creating simple and beautiful meals is my passion. I’m certainly not a gourmet chef. I don’t wield a knife like the culinary greats. I don’t care about the difference between bâtonneting & chiffonading. I’ve never spent years sweating it out as a sous chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The truth is… most of the time… I don’t even cook with a recipe. Collecting new ingredients and precisely following instructions is a complete drag. And, for most of us… not happening. Instead of feeling stressed & strained with my overloaded schedule, I decided to hop on life’s roller coaster and find a way to create nourishing meals that fit seamlessly into the day-to-day madness. The secret? A “no recipe” approach to assembling beautiful meals. All you need is to set aside some time to shop and then prep your food in advance. (I proclaim Sunday “kitchen fun day” – good music, good conversation, and lots of chopping, steaming, stirring, grilling and roasting.) When you arrive home exhausted, hungry and ready to eat throughout the week, all your food is waiting for you to be thrown together into a bowl. You’ll never have to wonder, “what’s for dinner” again. Here’s my simple guide to building balanced, nourishing and delicious meals in a bowl that will be your saving grace: Bowls are like the “little black dress” of meal planning. Your bowl is filled with staples like whole grains, protein, healthy fats and tons of veggies. Then you add a few key “accessories” to spice it up. To make sure that the bowls are balanced in flavor, texture and nutrition, choose at least one ingredient from each category. (Bonus points for going heavy on the veggies.) [olists num=1]
